Re: New (approx) 1 watt amp

That's funny you bring that up. Marshall is making a bunch of 1W amps now as well. They have different ones designed to be like the 60's, 70's, 80's, JCM's, etc. For a while now I've been seeing a 5W bandwagon with the different makers. This is probably the beginning of a new trend. 1W is still pret...

Re: Pour-in inlays?

That's exactly it! I saw a video somewhere online showing. It was a factor-tour. Might have been Ernie-Ball?

Edit: Found the video. The Binding process starts @ 2:08 into it.

Re: Neck-Through Pickup Wiring Channel

Sorry Jeff, when I read your post, I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were saying you made the channel from another direction and then had to make a cover to hide it.

Re: Neck-Through Pickup Wiring Channel

Another option (If you're not doing a cap) is to cut the wiring channel into the side of the wing that will glue-up agains the center-strip/neck. Then either your pickup-route will connect to it, or depending on where you put the channel, you'd only have to drill from the pickup-cavities to connect ...

Re: Natural Masked Binding

It is easier to just spray the whole body however, I personally like to put the dye into the wood to get the figure to "pop" If the body is sealed, then you're just tinting over the figure. In this case it will work.

Re: Natural Masked Binding

You can first mask the body around the binding and put a coat of clear on the binding to protect the wood from soaking the dye. Then mask the binding and put the dye on as normal. If anything does get on the binding, it will only be on the surface and should take only a little sanding or scraping to...

Re: String break angle over the nut not sufficient?

I bought those Grovers once but I returned them immediately because the posts are extremely tall. I didn't like the way they looked however, I thought the hole for the string was normal; just the locking-stuff above the holes was what made the shafts so tall. Like someone said before: string it up l...

Re: Cracked top body - Takamine GS330S

In that condition, you'll have to pay someone to take it away! :) You're in a tough spot. You're left with little value in that guitar. Any value in that guitar will only be appreciated by someone who has the skills to fix it up correctly and then resell it. Maybe see if your repair-guy would offer ...

You can still get a version of the Safe-T-Plane. Grizzly sells it for $27.99

Re: tools for a new builder: hand, stationary, or CNC?

My take on CNC's are the same I tell people who decide on power-tools vs hand-tools. A power-tool in the hands of a novice will only help them make a mistake faster! If you don't know how to drill a straight-hole: a power-drill will help you make a sloppy-hole faster. If you can't saw a straight-lin...

I've had good luck with Tru-oil. A couple of light-coats will seal it. Then you can use whatever on top for a clearcoat

Re: Is it customary for a repair-person to inscribe their mark & the date of repair?

I agree too that you don't want to put any label or info unless you have some strange modification that you would want to warn a future repairman down the road. I can't think of anything right now that would necessitate that. If you did your repairs right, there should be no eveidence of the work do...

We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause but Birchwood Casey has chosen to forgo selling any of their chemical products to the State of California. Although our prod...

I've worked on a few ValveStates and I think they are pretty forgiving about which tube you throw in them.

Your're welcome. I haven't drilled enough holes to need to sharpen mine, but looks no more difficult than touching up a straight router-bit. It should last a good while.

No I haven't had any problems with it. StewMac used to only sell a step-bit that could drill the hole and the counterbore in 1-shot, but it's like $70-80! When this counterbore had come along I ordered it immediately!

Re: Shellac over Tru-Oil, or some other Clear Coat?

I had good luck spraying the Tru-Oil in terms of how it dried clear and smooth. My problem was finding a good thinning-ratio (3-1 to 5-1 seemed to be the window) and have concistent spray results. The PreVal just has no control for flow. Also, since it's being thinned for spraying, the dry time is e...
