If you like the way it plays , then it's worth it. Decent pickups and controls on a well set up guitar , no matter the construction will maximize the pleasure .

Re: Lacewood / Buckeye burl electric
put on 7 coats of shellac ( buckeye is like a sponge ! ) and shot the first lacquer coat so far so good .. a few small holes to touch up.
it was a bit tricky to get the pick guard shade to match , but was worth the effort

Re: Fretless Lacewood / Redwood Burl bass
5 coats of deep vintage amber stain with just a touch of cherry , each coat back sanded back down clean with 220 grit.
Scalloped and stained the extension .. I'm pleased .. the pic is with an alcohol wipe to give an idea of what the finish will look like

Re: Fretless Lacewood / Redwood Burl bass
I decided to get creative as I gave it 24 "fret" access to extend the fingerboard a bit with a section that mimics the tail , I'll stain it darker to match the ebony later .

Re: Lacewood / Buckeye burl electric
I got some free time from my bass project to join and cut the back out for this guitar. It's 1/2" feathered crotch claro walnut. This will make for a sturdy combo with the rock maple neck.

Re: Lacewood / Buckeye burl electric
I decided on a slightly different approach after spending some time with my new Gibson CS 356. I've cut out a 1/2" set of Claro Walnut for the back , it is much more rugged than lacewood , I'm moving the Lacewood to the center section as it is light and resonant , it's top grain is boring anywa...
