Re: Damaged pot.

Hi Robert,
Not necessarily, if you've wired it incorrectly you could get these symptoms. Could you post a drawing or photo of what you've done?

Re: Idea for Simple Steam-Bending Box

Weighing in on the safety aspect, you're essentially planning on making a pipe bomb Alan, unless it is a completely unsealed chamber. Thin walled aluminium downpipe will not stand up to any significant pressure. The corners of a quadrilateral profile will also significantly reduce the chambers stren...

Re: Pressed Double Top Arch Top Instruments With Nomex!

Hi Gilbert,
Was this meant to be a reply to a discussion? Let me know where it was supposed to go and I can move it.

Re: Electronics, can't live with em, can't live without em....

Hi Zac, There are a couple of obvious problems with your schematic. First off, using push pull pots in double service as both volume and tone controls will mean that you are only able to use one function at a time - if you roll down the tone and then push for volume, the tone will be reset. This is ...

Re: De-lamination repair, glue question.

Michael, how well do the separated laminations fit back together? Are there any voids? I would recommend against polyurethane/Gorilla (it's not polyvinyl, by the way, that would be PVA - polyvinylacetate/Titebond) unless the fit is absolutely perfect, and you are able to clamp extremely heavily (pol...

Re: Need help with guitar electronics

Beate, I just looked the pickups up, they're advertised as having 4 conductor leads, and photos also appear to bear this out.

Re: Need help with guitar electronics

Hi Jos, Hmmm, not sure if "tuned coil tap" is lost in translation or not. There are ways to partially combine the signals from two coils, just in my experience they've never really sounded much more "single-coil-like" than just a split humbucker by itself, and it does add a fair ...

Re: Need help with guitar electronics

Hi Jos, Sorry, I might have confused you: I didn't even know you can't have a working overall volume with 2 tone pods on a guitar. You can have a master volume if you have two tone controls. What you can't have are two independent tone controls in a passive system. That's why I suggested two volume ...

Re: Need help with guitar electronics

Ok, well in my opinion you should reconsider what your aims are. I'll detail why. You've suggested a volume, tone, tone configuration for your three pots, I'd recommend volume, volume, tone instead. This is because when both pickups are engaged (pickup selector in middle position), both tone control...

Re: Need help with guitar electronics

Hi Jos, First off, I've hidden your email address, this is to prevent web crawlers from harvesting it. Which book did you read about this "tuned coil tap"? I believe that it would actually be a "tuned coil cut ", these terms are often confused or used incorrectly. I don't remembe...

Ryan, can you adapt your silk screen design to a stencil? This may simplify your problem.

Re: Too much bass

Hi Christian,
What's your electronics setup as is?
You could add a high pass cap, but Tele's and Tele pickups are not normally known for being overly bass-y, quite the opposite. There may be something wrong.

Rodger, please note that the term you used could be considered offensive, and such terms will not be tolerated on the forum. Thanks.

That's good to hear Peter, glad it's not the collet. Hope you can figure out what the problem with the height adjustment mechanism is!

Re: Peter Wilcox's two basses from a table top and floorboards

Yep, better late than never! Looks like you're making some good progress though, good luck Peter! By the way, with regards to your router, is the bit actually slipping in the collet? Or is the height adjustment of the router shot? If the bit is slipping in the collet, how are you fastening it? Do yo...

Re: What are the most common fretboard radii

Art,
David's spot on. Following the string path is what I mean.
I don't sand six flats and then round them off though, I simply splay my sanding path as I move across the board, leaving a conical rather than cylindrical surface.

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp

Hi Beate, Not saying there won't be any differences, I just don't think that they'll make a very significant change - or change in the direction that I'm aiming for. By reducing the kathode resistor, for example, the signal will be amplified slightly more asymmetrical and thus even order harmonics w...

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp

Thanks Andy! I've never studied electronics formally (and tubes/valves aren't something you're likely to study in much detail these days unless you're into high powered radio transmission or a few other eclectic fields anyway), but I've worked around another person who's used them in high quality st...

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp

Hi Beate, Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't think I'll be making any further changes to the circuit other than maybe the power supply. increase the anode resistor of the first valve stage close to its limit, use, say, 420 kOhms in order to maximize clean gain of that stage. As the first stage ...

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp

Thanks Samuel. Yes, of course aluminium oxide (alumina) is the surface we see, this happens almost immediately on exposure to the atmosphere. I'm just hoping to get some sort of nice patina, like an old cast aluminium pot or something. Some sort of etching and discolouration or something is exactly ...
