Re: Gibson SG SB250 1971
Hi Bob.
I think it could be done without a body template from what you've said above. It looks like pickup route templates which are widely available and careful measuring & marking would get it done.

Re: Wraparound bridge location
Hi John. I had a quick look at some pictures on the Graphtec site. I couldn't find anything on compensation. It looks to have more adjustment than tune o matics, but what I suggest is to measure the adjustment available & compare that to the available adjustment of a tune o matic + 1/8". If...

Re: Bridge Placement Headaches
I have an old trapeze tailpiece. with this attached i make sure the E1st & E 6th strings intonate. Basically I measure down the string on the E 1st with the saddle 2/3 - 3/4 forward to start with and move the bridge slightly until both E's intonate properly. For string throughs I have a metal pl...

(not) burning maple
Using a laminate trimmer with a template & bearing flush trim bit to shape a tele headstock I ended up with some dark burns on the end (grain) bit...the point of the toe.. They sanded out OK but I should've avoided the problem. Any advice re laminate trimmers for this? Should I use a (bigger) sl...

...ooopsss ..safety planer slip..
Hi. Against my better judgement and out of idle curiosity I decided to actually make necks. Today because of a slip using the safety planer I have as a result quite a nice looking maple tele neck with a scarf joint and angled headstock the thickness of which is 1/2 ". IIRC the conventional thic...

You can go here: http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resource ... fbcalc.pdf
and plug in some standard measurements or your own numbers and get the answer.
The theory is explained elsewhere and also here.

Straightening warped fretboards.
Hi. I have two maple fingerboards just about ready to glue on & fret (or vice versa)...but since radiussing them & putting in the dots it has rained lots here. If you've seen 'grabs' about Australian flooding that's it...anyway I knew it was coming and shellaced both boards on every surface ...

Re: Fixed bridge advice needed...
These have some 'pros': http://www.warmoth.com/Gotoh-510-Stud-Mount-Bridge-Chrome-P554C706.aspx Only two holes no need to offset the holes very comfortable look good possible 'cons' might be too narrow some some people can be fiddley to correctly locate the holes some people object to wrap around br...

I like the way you've managed to fade in both bursts. Are you spraying or using the D Myka rag on a stick method or something other?
Nice jobs.

...all this earthing stuff..
Hi. Being something of a slave to the written word I have painted all body cavities with conductive paint,(we're talking guitars here), ran wires from each cavity to a common point in the control cavity and connected all jack p/up bridge pot earths to this as well. I have had no problems I must say,...

Re: Mistakes made while building early guitars
On my first build - a 'bolt on' SG - I thought that you made all the bits and screwed them together for a 'guaranteed' Eureka moment when Jesus beams shone in through the shop window on a perfect creation... well... a number of things didn't fit perfectly at all..the most telling was that I'd sanded...
