Re: James Taylor lesson vids
Hmmm... I was unaware that he had lessons out there. Maybe check it out. I went to one JT concert in the late 80's. I was kind of bummed that my seats were against the back wall of the Universal Studios Ampitheater, but as the show went on, I realized he was an incredibly boring performer, visually....

Re: Finish in violet transparent
Before you apply the tinted finish, first seal with clear. If you are going to use tinted lacquer, I would seal with vinyl sealer or shellac. This will keep all of the colored finish on top of the guitar and not allow it to soak into the grain which can cause uneven color. Unless you are going for ...

Re: Saving an autograph in a new finish
It's either a silver Sharpie or a paint pen (like they sell in craft and model stores). Suggest getting one of each, testing the volatility of the signature media with the finishes you've looked at, and experiment with others. I read someplace (pretty sure it wasnt' here) that using the clear coat t...

Re: Paint Stripper
I used to use what was called Naval Jelly on things that had durable surfaces. Not sure if there's a version for wood, or even if they still sell that stuff. It would get down through all layers of paint in minutes, and be scraped off with a putty knife.

My OTHER stringed passion...
Seems I can't get away from things with strings... :D . Over the last few years, my interest in archery has been renewed, to the point of getting certified to run Cub Scout Archery at Day Camp in my district. I was involved in archery in my late teens/early 20's, but kind of lost the 'bug', so to sp...

Wow..I go away to camp and get caught up in work when I come back, and find out a lot has happened in our MIMF world. I was relieved to see Amy is out and about. Best wishes from my family. I will send something to the Searcy PP account to help.

Re: When do you decide to simply buy an instrument?
I bought an old Yamaha FG312 a while back, somewhat for nostalgic reasons, and the fact that it's taking me way too long to work on what I have already, and I probably would not get to doing a 12'er for years. Some you build, some you buy...

Re: EKO Ranger 12 String
Yeah, all the people who copied those Gibby adjustables didn't realize it was a poorly designed concept....I had, back in the day, inlaid the same wood and cut a traditional saddle slot. Saw probably 8 or 9 come through the shop after word got around.
