Re: September giveaway
Fantastic - the last thing I did before calling it quits last night was to remove an old train wreck of a nut off a 60s era twelve string. Looks like I'll be cutting its replacement in style. Thank you Steve!

Re: The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain
Ha! They're a hoot. I especially liked their completely straight faced take on "Teenage Dirtbag". Is it just me, or do they give a nod to "Please Don't Bang on the Piano" midway through their cover of "Pinball Wizard"? Brought me right back to the days of listening to Dr Demento's show...

Re: New Pawn-Shop style electric
Oooh - that does indeed look like a lot fun. I'm trying to figure out something about the shot of the back you posted... is the shading on the back of the horn in the top right of that photo some sort of digital artifact, or does the body taper there? From the other shots, it looks like that horn is...

Re: vacuum holder marks my finish
Is it because the force exerted by the gasket is compressing/marring the finish? If so, increasing the width of the gasketing material would (in my pea brain's view) spread out the force over a larger area and in doing so impart less psi onto the finish. Ice skates vs snowshoes...?

Google "guitar assembly with no strings attached design news", should lead you to an article by Joseph Ogando. Sounds like they used CA/superglue. Braces are said to be ABS, like "black PVC" plumbing.

Re: Pick Punch
Either Frank Ford's or Gryphon's site has a blurb on a pick punch set up in the store that cuts picks out of old credit cards. That one looks to be a good ole cast iron beast though.

A recent conversation with one of my sons has Warren Zevon's "Sleep When I'm Dead" playing in an endless loop in my head. As fond as I am of dear Mr Zevon, I'd prefer to swap him out for a bit of John Hiatt at this point. Adam - have you seen Joe Bonamassa's video that's been kicking around on cable...

Re: LR Baggs CTRL-X Preamp - Mono Only?
Ah, I like the stealthy little hole approach. Great idea - thanks Steve. As I'm getting older and more cantankerous, I find myself tending more towards the "KISS" principle. Too many five pound swiss army knives in my past... time for a simple two bladed pocket knife.

LR Baggs CTRL-X Preamp - Mono Only?
Following up a bit on G.S. Monroe's recent question re: installation of an LR Baggs T-Bridge... Not long ago I also picked up an LR Baggs T-Bridge and Ctrl-X preamp. I'm planning to have a bit of fun by pairing it with a single aftermarket P-90 in a frankenstein-ed Melody Maker clone. The Ctrl-X has...

Re: Broken Floyd Rose saddle on custom built
From the picture, it looks like your patch's grain was running perpendicular to the grain of the wood around it. I'd run the grain parallel to the neck to make it harder for the post to split the patch along a grain line. Also, as mentioned above, make sure that your patch fits snugly against the si...

Re: violin tuner peg cutter plans?
Most homemade and commercial rigs I've seen have a tapered hole with an adjustable blade, along the lines of most handheld pencil sharpeners. Create a tapered hole in a block of wood with a tapered reamer, plane/cut off the top of the block, and mount the blade parallel to the taper so that it slowl...

Very nice - especially with the addition of the wings and new matching rings. The wings were a brilliant solution.
