Re: Software for Performers

Everything depends on what you are looking for, so please elaborate. You can break software down into (at least) three catagories: For live performance, including playing background tracks For practicing and learning songs Or for recording music. What are you going to use it for? If I can dump an op...

Re: Guitar #1 completed

I always love a tele, and I like the green too. If you are getting buzzing and think the nut is at fault remember that it only comes into play on the unfretted strings. With an electric guitar and the light strings used, it will always have a little fret rattle if the action is low and it's played h...

Re: 60's Melody Maker - repair or hang it on the wall?

It's always best to fill with new wood. The marks don't appear all that deep. I'd file it back to clean wood and glue new mahogany in place with epoxy because it is the best at filling any gaps left- don't try to take the damage down all the way, it would be ok to leave a few of the deeper damage. U...

Re: 5 tones on a Tele? Not sure if this is a dumb question

Yes, it is. But most of the time all you can get is three-way or five-way switches, and that gives you something to do with that extra position. You can still have a tone control and having the possibility of two caps would give even more cut, who knows why you would want that. I don't put any tone ...

Re: 5 tones on a Tele? Not sure if this is a dumb question

Going with humbuckers would remove any chance of getting a real telecaster sound. Nothing but telecaster pickups will give you that. It is possible to wire your guitar that way, I have done it quite a bit. There is a good website for these schematics, the DBG Studio. Thanks to Bill Machrone for turn...

Me too, that is a really difficult job, very time consuming. And most repair folks charge a lot to do it because of that.

Re: Any harp making experience here?

One of my best and oldest friends builds and plays these harps. Here is his Youtube channel, which has a lot of videos, mostly just musical. https://www.youtube.com/user/jspalink1/videos?disable_polymer=1 Jim is a great musician and his videos get a lot of plays. He is a pretty busy guy, I am not su...

Re: question about rubber hose

I find getting a good fit and using tape works best for me. I tried wrapping once and the combined wraps built up so much pressure that it actually warped the body!

That sounds great! It sure makes a large difference, I think. It's so nice to really hear everything so in tune.

Re: Old Kraftsman wiring

Make sure the cap is wired in correctly, it goes between the hot lead and ground. If that's right then try a new cap....it doesn't have to be permanent, just to test things. If that fixes it, then find a nice one like an orange drop or something to replace the bad one.

Re: PRS nut compensation measurements - 25.5" scale

Barry said, "So when you do this, does it work like saddle compensation? For example, tune the open string, then if the first fret is a bit sharp then you need to lengthen the distance by carving the nut back a bit?" Not the way I understand it. If the first fret is sharp, then that means the fret i...

Re: Composite stiffener rods new source

I have used those tubes, and they do work just fine. They have a thicker wall than the ones I have seen from Dragon Plate, but I stopped using the round tubes from this source because I haven't had good luck finding decent round router bits to match the round tubes. I now use the square tubes from D...

Or you can use a set screw adjustment system, look at Fender's "Micro tilt" system. But stick with the four bolts.
