Frank Ford uses Deionized water for lifting off dirt. Check it at frets.com.

There is a discussion in acoustic guitars about Gotoh tuners. The information might help get parts, but I would go with Barry's suggestion.

Re: undersaddle pickup would this work?

Also, the Gibson made the Chet Atkins solid body nylon string (I hesitate to say "classical"). I believe they made a steel string as well. Nothing but undersaddle of some kind.

Re: Endpin Jack Needed

And you thought you were done with me... A little searching found a shot of an Eastman arch top showing the hanger. It is metal with a large hole where the jack and/or strap button would go. It looks like it will fit over the end pin jack that David showed. If this is the same hanger that is on your...

Re: Endpin Jack Needed

One more time. I was thinking that because the guitar is an archtop, you needed the screw in endpin. Not so. You can install it and tighten from the outside, just like the part says. You'll still need that two groove nut cover.

...assuming the cello type hanger.

Re: Endpin Jack Needed

And I'm back. If this guitar has the cello type hanger and you want to use the endpin jack as a strap button, you'll need to leave a bit of the threaded portion out. This is where the hanger goes. Then the end can be used as a strap button. I've seen the other kind of end pin jack with two grooves, ...

Re: Endpin Jack Needed

I just took a look at that model guitar. Does it have a cello type hanger for the tailpiece? So you'll need something you can tighten from the outside (which is probably what you asked for). There's this: http://www.stewmac.com/Pickups_and_Electronics/Components_and_Parts/Jacks/Threaded_Endpin_Jack....

Re: Piezo/ Mag hybrid problems

good guess, I guess. If you wanted to get slick with your outputs, you could wire them like a stereo Rickenbacker, with two jacks. One jack is stereo (and powers the preamp). When you use both outputs, it sends piezo to one jack, magnetic to the other. This means you can use mono cords, allowing the...

Re: Piezo/ Mag hybrid problems

Are the two signals leaving the guitar separately? If they are tied together, the magnetic volume will turn everything off, like on a two pick up Gibson guitar. If the piezo volume is after the preamp (rather than controlling the output of the preamp), the piezo volume would do the same. You could t...

Re: Source needed for an acoustic electric jack

I think David misunderstands the piece to be replaced. This is a panel with both a 1/4" (TRS) and XLR connector, so you could actually run both high and low impedance outs simultaneously. My experience with these things is they are not very sturdy, especially with a cord flexing it around. You don't...

Re: Volume Pot Wiring

If I didn't want to replace any parts (being cheap) I might disconnect everything and start from scratch, but I have decent soldering skills and tools. You should try to get rid of all those cold joints, using a solder sucker (once again good tools) and start somewhat clean. I would go to Seymour Du...

Re: Squeaking Pickup

interesting. I replaced the cap in my old p bass some 35 years ago (it was too much cap, and I still believe it), so I cant bear witness. If you're going to change the cap, replace it (I assume it is a .1 mfd) with a .05 mfd. You'll be able to turn the tone all the way off and still hear the G string.

Re: Martin D25-K finish question

Let's be mercenary. If you're going to sell the guitar, don't do anything to it and have the price reflect the guitar's condition. Say you put 5 hours into fixing this. What is your time worth? Will you get that much more for the instrument? One of the challenges here is to make the repair blend int...

Re: Help me put my bass guitar back together

http://ozoneguitars.com/ This is Dave Schechter's current web site. You might ask him if he has a schematic for this pick up. The worst that can happen is he says no. It looks to me like this was a complete Schecter assembly, which included the pickguard, pots all wired etc. This came with Bourns Mo...

Re: Help me put my bass guitar back together

Sorry I'm so late to this soiree. I have a Schechter bass with a tapped P bass pick up so I can work out the color codes (even though I'm reasonably color blind). It is a remarkably complicated wiring as it is essentially two pick ups, each hooked in series. I don't have the time right know to re re...
