Re: Shellac: blonde vs. orange vs. garnet
Here's a Humidor I made with a Santos Rosewood Veneer, The first image is prior to french polishing and the second is with sanding sealer alone and the third with multiple coats of 50/50 button polish and mentholated spirit as instructed by my furniture finishing tutor: You can see how much redness ...

Re: Shellac: blonde vs. orange vs. garnet
Button polish is not as dark as garnet shellac and that gives a much more pronounced deep red than what you have achieved there - the mahogany should take on reds reminiscent of finished Madagascan rosewood. shellac colours take multiple coats to build though, how many coats do you have there? You c...

Re: Jointer Plane Recommendations
I now have a collection of Record planes in 4, 5 1/2 and 7 sizes and i love them. all of my woodworking was taught to me with Record and they are fine solid tools. My 5 1/2 is from 1954/56 and the 7 is from the 70's very nice planes, sadly the 4 is a new non-um made model but you can't have everythi...

Tapatalk does. You can upload right from your gallery or camera. It also allows you access to your pms right off your phone. It's a lovely little app.

Re: Woodburning on the soundboard - adverse effects??
Just checked out the website, it's very nice, really like the other guitars and the pyrography is outstanding! I'm not very artistic in that way sadly and i have a lot of admiration for you!

Re: Woodburning on the soundboard - adverse effects??
That's beautiful Zach! I especially like the fact that you've left off the rosette and curled the twigs around the hole there. can we see a full shot of the guitar too please? I'd really like to see what the whole piece looks like

Re: The 10 Year Project
After waiting patiently for my lacquer to dry over the last few weeks, i have finally completed the 10 year guitar. There's a little more tweaking to be done here and there but for all intents and purposes here's the completed article:

Re: Durable Natural finish ( No polymers)
Laquer and shellac user, what is your experience? Does it last many years? Also these are great because you can easily repair scratches and damage, unlike polymer (unless you sand it down but that goes against the whole point of this post = no creation of waste plastic.) Hello, I have experience wi...

Re: PRS' Take on acoustic guitars
I could be wrong, but didn't Torres build classical guitars? I guess it's reasonable to examine the construction to obtain some insight, but it seems to me that steel string guitars and classical guitars are not similiar enough in their design parameters to be able to get much useful information ab...

Re: PRS' Take on acoustic guitars
Absolutely Mark; let's not forget that they feel they have learned their lessons from this Torres they xrayed. He demonstrates that so much of the response comes from the soundboard he places his arm across it to dampen the sound and it's audible even on the low quality videos.

PRS' Take on acoustic guitars
I appreciate the immense combined knowledge offered by the members of thIs board. PRS bedazzle wannabe luthiers like myself with their 'new' takes on electric instruments but I have been reading today about their endeavours in the acoustic world. As I intend this to be a topic of discussion and not ...
