Re: Neck-Thru Build Pics

I have seen the same problem in some necks before. One of the forms I had seen a post saying if the joint could be closed with pressure from a clamp, then you could wick super glue and re clamp it, and it would be fine. I have never done that myself, but always thought it made sense, but anyone know...

Re: Optimum String Height Above Body??

3/4 of an inch would be very hard as there would be the tendency to be sharp the further down the fret board you go.
Having very low action can have issues with string buzz too.

Re: long scale-short neck bass?

What kind of tuners will you use? I imagine a slotted head would be hard to string up. Are there tuners that come in from the side like that? Or are you going to make your own?

I actually like that idea. Wish I had though of that for my project.......
They sell tuneomatic's on a wooden base. So it is not like you would lose intonation.

Re: long scale-short neck bass?

I myself played bass back in the eighties used to play Freebird, which definitely needed upper front access and a lot of Iron Maiden, Rush and many other progressive rock bass playing. I've since quit playing music and then started again playing as a guitarist and now I listen mostly blues. and many...

Re: Cannot get Bridge Height Correct

I had a low cost Dean that had this same problem. If it is a bot on neck you can shim the neck. If it is a set neck you can un glue and try to tweak the neck angle. Not an easy thing to do. If like my Dean it was a neck thru. I used my router in a jig to plane the archtop flat and then glued a new m...

Re: long scale-short neck bass?

So if you enlarged the upper bout and cut away a bit at the lower bout you can still have the upper fret access, and better balance, Pardon my crude drawing. Also you can always do some weight relief, like Les paul type of weight relief. Also the sound hole could be an inch down and still not seem o...

Re: A veneer project. Bolt on LP style.

Cool I have a few guitars I would love to veneer, but had no idea how to accomplish it on a carved top. I have veneered flat surfaces but getting the veneer to bend around the contours is something I have never done. Please post lots of pics of your process.

Re: question re layout

Can you post a picture of the boards and a pencil line of the body out line? I am thinking that symmetry is what most people feel is beautiful. So if you could maybe add a third piece of wood in the center (like ebony or another contrast wood) with the correct width it might help move the knots so i...

There is no way to modify a guitar to have a zero fret if it just had the nut is there? a bolt on or glue in option?

Re: figured top strat

I did not see the zero fret. Is that a new thing? I never remember seeing them before but I have seen a few recently. Is there an advantage to using one as opposed to jut a nut?

I love it as always I am a big fan of your design. I want to do a claim shell like yours with a thru neck that i have and base the body on a gibson 339 shape and smaller dimensions, but with a longer upper horn.
