Re: Archtop body binding with router
I made one out of a cheap plastic cutting mat. Cut out a circle with a circle cutter in a pillar drill. Put a bolt through and a couple of washers and a bolts and put it into the pillar drill. Used 80 grit on hardwood block and a scraper to shape it. Easy to shape but makes a mess! I drilled a coupl...

Re: Top Damage Advice Needed
I think the crack will re glue ok. The dent can be improved with a wet cloth and some heat. Put a damp clean cloth over the dent and apply heat on top of the cloth with the tip of an household clothes iron or a soldering iron. Repeat as necessary. This has worked for me so long as the fibers are not...

Re: neck heel crushing sides of guitar
Glad you got a solution. You need to leave a small space between the end of the tenon and the mortise. If it has been bottoming out them the temptation is to crank on the bolts to try to get the heel to sit flush. Looking at the amount of denting on the bindings at the soundboard I think the bolts h...

Well Charlie, what sets you apart? Quite simple really without this forum and all the help and advice I have received here I would never have started building guitars! Now 3 ukes and two guitars later I am still a daily visitor.

Wilkinson open back machine heads
Hi I am looking for a set of Wilkinson open back tuners and a supplier in UK or EU or with free postage. Have found several sellers in the USA online but postage charges are ridiculously high.

Re: looking for advice to remove a clear self adhesive pick guard
Hi guys thanks to all for the input. Used a combination of lighter fuel (only way I can get naptha here!) and a hair drier and it came off a treat. masked rest of top with thick cardboard. Fitted new one using a spray of water and a cork block and it went on first time with no bubbles. Friend is del...

Re: Hand planes
+1 for Veritas have the block plane and the low angle smoother and they are both great. The thicker blades made of much better steel make a huge difference. I also have a low angle jack plane from Quangsheng which is also very good. Mine came with three different blades and I turned the middle one i...

ooo bracing query
Hi I am about to start an all mahogany 000 and am using the stewmac plans. Has anyone used these plans and if so do you suggest any alterations to bracing heights and thicknesses as they look a bit chunky to me.
