Re: Good Quality Hand Planes Which Do Not Require A Lottery Win?

Try the Quangsheng planes from Woodwork Heaven (UK based). I have a low angle block plane and it is very good with a nice heavy blade.

Strat pickup query

This is my question for the hardcore stratocaster fanatics out there on the forum on behalf of my son. ' I have a MIM classic series 60's strat and wanted to know what the pickups were modeled on. On the official site it just says their Fender Vintage style pickups, does this mean their the 57/62 pu...

Re: Bog Oak

If you have a look at Babbling Brook issue 1 (see last post) there is an article about using native British timbers for acoustic guitars!

Re: Bog Oak

Hi the article is in Acoustic magazine, it has bog oak back and sides too. Also lots of good info on their web page http://www.brookguitars.com/ The online mag Babblong Brook is worth a look

Radius Dish

Hi about to start my first OM style build. Am in process of making jigs and mould etc and am making a couple of radius jigs. Have been lurking here for a while and would not have had the courage to start this without all the help I have got from this site and OLF. One query I have (there will undoub...

Wood Identification help required please

DSC_0175 (640x424) (320x212).jpg DSC_0177 (320x155).jpg Hi Can anyone help me identify this wood? Picked up a short plank at a recycling centre and planed it up and gave it a coat of shellac sealer so you can see what it looks like. Also attached a pic of the end grain which has also been planed an...

Re: lacquer or enamel?

How about using artist acrylic paint which is available in tubes and is a thick consistency Can be thinned and cleaned with water but dries waterproof. You can always shoot a quick coat of lacquer over the top to seal it. You may have to watch lacquer thinner as it may dissolve whatever your screen ...

Re: Bob Brozman...

Seen him live when he was last in the UK and he was great. Small venue and audience was mostly middle aged guitar players like me and the concert was like an extended masterclass tuition. Have lots of his tutorial DVDs which I am now going to get playing again. RIP Bob you will be sorely missed. che...

Re: I scarcely know a chisel from a schwizzle!!!!

I would go with Ashley Isles if you can afford them but the Narex are very good too. The Bahco get good reviews for holding and edge but are a bit clumsier for our kind of work and are more of a carpenters tool. You will mostly be doing paring cuts where you push the chisel (much like a snooker cue!...

Re: Starter Chisel Set?

Also have a look at Ashley Iles Mark II Bevel Edge Chisels. I have a set and they are really great take and hold a great edge. As for sharpening I use the scary sharp system using 3M abrasive film stuck to float glass ( both available from www.workshopheaven.com) with a Veritas Mark II guide and can...
