Re: Undersaddle piezo in Martin 000-18

I just checked with the light... and the braces fall right below the ends of the saddle... :( I also thought it was strange, but apparently that's how Martin built guitars in the 70s (maybe only this model?). That's a shame because I really wanted to use this guitar for gigging. Can you think of any...

Undersaddle piezo in Martin 000-18

Hi, I have a 1971 Martin 000-18 and I would like to install an undersaddle pickup in it, but I think that the x braces are exactly below the saddle ends... so I can't risk drilling a hole there. Has anyone found this situation? Checking other possibilities I'm also considering something like the LR ...

Re: Lap steel test (feedback welcome)

That sounds good! I have some stuff on Soundcloud as well. I recorded this with the first guitar that I built, a classical one, there's an old Dobro as well: https://soundcloud.com/jrcros/billys-song

Re: Lap steel test (feedback welcome)

Thanks Mark! It sounded good to me but I just wanted to hear someone else's opinion.

Lap steel test (feedback welcome)

Hi all, I have been learning guitar building for a while now, I have built a couple of guitars with a professional's luthier help, and I am currently building an electric lap steel at home, mainly as an exercise. A lap steel is way easier than a guitar, so I thought it would be good as my first buil...

Re: P90 noise when bending strings

Hi, Thanks all for all the replies. It was finally something different to everything suggested, but everything made me think so in the end I found the problem and therefore the solution. It's an archtop guitar (Gibson ES-125), so it has a tailpiece. The ground connection to the tailpiece was not goo...

Oh that might be it! I cleaned it because there was some steel wool on the pickup, but I might have to check again... Thanks!!!

Re: P90 noise when bending strings

Does the string hit or rub against a pole piece as it is bent or played? Check that really good, it can be decieving at times. To test it, lower all the pieces, then try it, or just take a good look. It could also be a screw that could be loose enough to rattle. Did you pot the pickup in wax? And y...

Re: P90 noise when bending strings

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

No, the strings don't hit the polepieces, they're about 1/8' below the strings. But I'm thinking that maybe it could be something that vibrates when the string is pulled, I will check everything... thanks!

Re: P90 noise when bending strings

Hi Greg, Thanks a lot for your reply. The frets are ok, actually I refretted the guitar so I polished them. In fact I think the noise is electric, I said like a "scratch" because it's the best way I found to describe it, it's similar to the noise of a dirty pot when you turn it, but it happens when ...

P90 noise when bending strings

Hi all, I recently rewound an old P90 from the 1950s as it wasn't working. The sound is good and it just has the normal amount of "hum" that this pickups have, but it seems to create a strange kind of "scratching" sound when the strings are bent. It's not too bad, but just enough to be bothering. I ...

Re: Template for Gibson ES-125

Howdy, Greg Steil here. I have a drawing I made of a 1958 Gibson ES-125 with a P-90. This was the thin body model, and the pickup cut out is right about in the middle of the guard. Would this help? I'd be happy to sen a scan if it would work, and if I had your E. The shape should be the same I thin...

Template for Gibson ES-125

Hi, I am restoring a Gibson ES-125 and I need a template to make the pickguard, which is missing. I could just buy one but they're generally too expensive and I'd prefer to make it myself. Anyone knows where I can find a template for this? Or maybe someone has got a pickguard which can be scanned an...
