Re: Hans Bezemer's 7 string headless guitar: Tuned in fifths

Greg, Thank you for your reply. A while ago I made a quick recording of a prototype: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A1NkiwltbI I like the clean sound but the distorded sound needs to be modified. There's a wealth of info about this pickup design on the music electronics forum (single loop low Z pic...

Quick mock up

I've made a quick mock up from what I have so far:
Body parts, neck, bridge and pickups.
Next up: Finishing the neck and installing the frets.

Clark,
Great job. I like your concept and love the dark natural color.
I'm on the look out for #2...

Re: Guitar-a-lele

Indeed Jacob why not!
Maybe you can use the zither pins that will come out of your piano and make a multi stringed / necked instrument...

Lookin' forward to see your progress.

It's looking good Warren.
I'm always thrilled to see cut offs and pieces of wood taken out of the trashcan to be turned into instruments!
Good luck with your build.

Re: 7 string headless guitar: Tuned in fifths

Made just a little progress: Glued up the neck and planed the taper.
I was planning to use my router for the neck, but we have a couple of birds breeding near our shed, so I used my plane instead to keep the noise down...

I keep amazing myself about the beautiful pieces off wood you can find in the trashcan!
Goodluck with your builds.

Re: 7 string headless guitar: Tuned in fifths

Made a little progress:
I've cut the fretboard and neck piece, once the truss rod is installed I'll glue them up and plane the taper.
Further I've cut the wood for the pickups.

Hans Bezemer's 7 string headless guitar: Tuned in fifths

All right I'm in. I want to make a 7 string guitar tuned in fifths: C (one step above a low B)-G-D-A-E-B-F# (two steps above high e of a guitar). I roughly based the design on a Klein headless guitar ( and after that found out that this was already done http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.ph...

On electronics:

I'm experimenting with single loop Low Z pick ups: besides a small transformer you'll only need some magnets and a piece of electric wire.

Re: Guitar tuned in fifths research

I'm thinking about making a angled headstock, but don't really know how to deal with the angle in the nut. The difference between the bassside and trebleside is around 2". Can I bevel the fretboard behind the nut? or make a double angled headstock like Tristan did? http://www.mimf.com/phpbb/viewtopi...
