Re: Making keystone style rosette pieces
Shouldn't that be the bits diameter?2. Cut inner circle of the rosette's border strip into your top, and without changing the circle cutter's settings, also cut this circle into your glued up circle of tiles. Make your border strips to be the same thickness as this bits radius.

Re: using acetone as a glue for binding
I have found using Clear PVC Weld for the wood/plastic interface works very well. Then acetone to bond the subsequent layers.

As a software engineer and subscriber to PC Mag in the past when I was more hardware orientated I remember Bill's writing and was surprised to see him on this forum. Akin to discovering that Donald Knuth whose data structure theory we studied at University was also a contributor to Mad Magazine. He ...

Here are some shots of the CAD drawing I did to get the layout defined.
I'm not sure if this thread belongs in the Acoustic forum? Perhaps one of the mods could move it somewhere appropriate?

Re: Fender curved join fretboard jig....?
I've thought about sanding drums and the like but making something with a 14-1/2 inch diameter wheel would be quite an undertaking and be a big bit of kit for my small shed. The sanding drum I made does not have a 12 Inch radius It has a 3 inch radius. The curve is in the Vertical axis. Like a wood...

Re: Fender curved join fretboard jig....?
What about making a sanding drum with the correct convex curve on it? I did this with a concave curve to rough in fretboards before final sanding. I first took a piece of board with the curvature I wanted and glued some 80 grit sand paper on it. Then put the sanding drum I made up of pieces of MDF i...

Re: Chapman stick?
I based my design firmly on the Chapman Stick by looking at the published photos and specifications on the Chapman website then did a bunch of cad drawings to make sure things panned out. Mike, my bassist friend, then reviewed the drawings and we came up with a final layout. Pete, the guitarist in t...

Re: String spacing for new bridge
A simple mod on some drill presses which don't have a locking mechanism:
Unscrew the depth stop and add an extra nut underneath the piece of metal with the hole drilled in it that sticks out from the side of the press.
Adjusting the nut allows you to lock the press at the correct height.

Re: Question on Wagner Safe-T-Planer
Use masking tape and CA glue like this:
One strip on the work piece and a corresponding strip on the sled. Run some CA onto the tape and press together.
Removes easily and the CA doesn't get onto the wood and stain it (maple and spruce in my experience being the worst)

Re: Gas Can Electric Guitar?
It wouldn't have to be a neck through if you build a piece through the can and make a place to bolt on a conventional neck. Yes quite true. We did look at that but found the neck through easier to implement as we could never really work out a suitable way of doing the neck joint without hacking up ...

"As an example, - In some circles dealing with guitar amps, component properties are taken far beyond both technology and physics and well into voodoo land.... " I agree entirely. I too have worked with electronics and RF (Microwave) since 1975 but then went over to the dark side (software)! Some of...

Re: Considerations for hardwood amp cabinets
It is possible to talk of power gains in terms of passive components like speakers and antennae by relating them to an omni-directional equivalent. ie if you measure the power output in the omni-directional case then substitute the component with the directional component you could well read a "powe...

Re: Neck Through Blank
The StewMac and the Carvin Necks appear to be the exact same neck. I would not be surprised if they were just being sold by the different retailers but coming from the same manufacturer. Same materials, scale length, radius, truss rod cover, etc. The big difference is that the Carvin neck is curren...
