Re: June 2020- How/What is everyone doing?

Hey Clay,

Try baking a pizza on a BBQ grill sometime.
You might be pleasantly surprised how it turns out.

June 2020- How/What is everyone doing?

Hey everybody, It's been a while since I've been on the forum. I just wanted to see how everyone's been doing. Also, I'm curious what people have been up to. I've been growing blueberries, and making Kombucha. Mainly, I've been focussing on reopening my dental office with new safeties in place for C...

Re: BBQ grill handles? Any recommendations?

I'm probably a "leave it outdoors, and periodically hose it down" person.

I figure that this isn't a hand made katana forge....and even if it was, it'd be a PITA to bring it inside.

Osage orange it is! Thanks everyone!

BBQ grill handles? Any recommendations?

With the coronovirus shutdown going on, I've been very leary to buy stuff. That being said, I picked up a Weber grill from a neighbor. They were tossing it because the handles cracked. I'm thinking of making new handles, and using the grill. Any recommendations on a good wood species? FWIW, I have s...

Re: Left handed block planes? Or hand agnostic?

Have you considered a Japanese or Hong Kong style plane?

I like both equally (or a little more) to my veritas planes.
These planes are truly ambidextrous

Osage Orange slab- yes, no?

I've been on sawmill creek, where a guy has offered a 1"x25" x65" slab of osage orange for part of the cost of milling ($80). Do you think it'd be a good idea to get it? In terms of resawing, I was thinking of dropping by a local luthier supply house for the resawing...or going to a luthier friend w...

Re: Is guitar building like crack or nicotine?

It's a bit more socially acceptable than crack or nicotine.

I'm in remission, but only because my workshop has a leak (and I'm afraid to ruin good wood/tools).
Back in the day, my classmates would find me browsing pages of rosewood and spruce.

Re: Makers Knife

If you want a superlative blade, I'd recommend a Kiridashi from Stan Covington.

Fwiw, I have a Nogent paring knife (vintage). The blade on the older ones suck.
The razor idea is a good one though.

Re: Coolest or most useful tool that you have?

Just an update after a looooong absence. My coolest tool is a Kiridashi from Stan Covington. He had it forged from Konobu, one of the best blacksmiths of carving tools in Japan. Just adding to the list. If you're interested in getting superlative Japanese tools, I highly recommend Stan as a supplier.

Wood storage pictures?

Hi MIMF,

Long time, no post.
I haven't build for about 7-8 years, but hope to get back into it this year.

However, my workshop is a mess.

Would you mind sharing pictures of your wood storage?

Re: Good amp for electric ukulele is needed

I'm not much of an electric guy, but I love my little pignose amp.
For practice use, I also like the Blackstar Fly 3....however, you have much better taste than me.
Personally, I like small and cute amps.

I'll be looking on with interest.
