Re: February giveaway

I agree with Bob, if my number isn't chosen, it will be on my list to make. Great idea Steve!

Re: Apparently, I Need a Tutorial on Side Bending

I haven't bent mahogany yet (have some in the wings), but included the layers you listed, I always wrap the wood and damp craft paper in aluminum foil and fold it to seal. This keeps the steam in and has always worked fine for me. I also always do the waist first at around 240 F, and finish the bout...

It looks fantastic, Charlie. Thanks for taking us through the process.
I'm also curious about how it sounds.

I too am really liking the looks of both of these guitars. Nice use of the wedge-shaped back strips.

Re: Building a hurdy-gurdy

Charlie, that shape is obviously where the pickup goes :D .
Seriously, since I got the plans for a hurdy-gurdy, and have a friend who is an active player, I'm excited to follow this post and hopefully also follow in your footsteps.

Re: Pickup winder counter Help

The counter includes a debounce circuit which is 15 msec, so hopefully this is not a factor. I may try a longer magnet, or change the magnet orientation to see if that makes a difference. I also might see if I can find a different reed switch that is made more for fast operations. And I also will pr...

Re: Pickup winder counter Help

Hi David, I'm not sure what you mean by "trigger". I have a magnet on the back of the disk that holds the bobbin, and then have a magnetic reed switch to register when the magnet passes. I have hooked these up to the "count" pins on the counter. In theory, the information says th...

Re: Pickup winder counter Help

I recently decided to upgrade to a counter rather than tediously measuring resistance. I bought a magnetic reed switch and tried hooking it up to both a pedometer and a calculator. Neither was satisfactory beyond very slow speeds. I saw a reference for a DIY up/down counter and am pleased with the r...

Re: Designs for an MIMF headstock logo?

Roger,
I like that. I was wondering about JC's for an inlay. Your's would be good for inlay and JC's for a decal.

Re: Designs for an MIMF headstock logo?

I really like the version with the nut backed off to the F. I'm having trouble seeing how these could be inlaid into a headstock though. If it is a decal that will be applied to a headstock, then this would be a nice choice, it would lay sideways along the headstock and be readable when the instrume...

Re: $100 Local Materials Challenge, Eddie McRae, Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic

Hi Eddie,
Looking good!
I'm going to have to consider black walnut for fretboards as well.
For steel slats, I had good luck checking in with local metal fabricators and the price was very reasonable. They will even cut to size.

What Louie said. I'm glad that Charlie came up with a way that we could show our appreciation for all that you've done.
Hope that you check in and visit once in awhile.
Now make sure that you don't throw your back out unloading all of that hay! (Don't ask how I know :D ).

Deb, we'll really miss you. I'm relieved that the Forum will continue after the discussions this past fall where that was still up in the air, and I'm glad that you've settled on a new direction. Best of luck with the garlic venture! We grew our first crop (only 30 plants) of hard neck garlic this l...
