Re: Happy 21st birthday to the MIMF

Thanks for all you do Charlie. Been doing a lot of lurking here, it seems that almost every time I post a reply the thread dies so lurking keeps the them active? ;)

Re: When do you install frets?

Eric, Search the Old MIMF library for "Jay Harland's bolt-on mortice and tenon joint for archtop necks" When Jay first brought up the topic of a bolt on neck on an archtop the overwhelming consensus of all the old time pros was, "It has been tried and it looks bad and does not work!&q...

Re: Archtop build

Search the old MIMF library for"Moll thinline archtop" and you'll find Bill's thoughts about adding block to block bracing. I did it in my build and no problems in the past 12 years.

Re: Alto Saxophone

I am a middle school band director and last year we bought two Château saxes. Tenor and alto. I'm very pleased with both saxes. Bach is not well known in the woodwinds. Brass yes. My two best tbns. are Bachs. I was told the Châteaus were made in the same factories as Cannonball saxes.

Re: replacing missing xylophone tonebars with different ones

Traditionally Marimbas and Xylophones were made from Honduras Rosewood not Brazilian. in your tuning removing small amounts of wood from the underside of the middle of the bar LOWERS the pitch removing wood from the underside of the ends RAISES the pitch.

Great looking instrument. The tailpiece is the only thing that isn't yours. I'd like to see the tailpiece YOU build.

Re: full size floating humbucker on archtop

I'll second Mr. Stewart's recommendation. The Kent Armstrong HANDWOUND floating humbuckers are wonderful. The pole pieces are adjustable and the sounds are great. I've also used the floating P-90 with coil tapping.

Re: Chromatic Tuner Apps

Best Android tuner app by far is DaTuner Pro. The free app DaTuner free has most of the features of the pro version. use DT Pro to tune 80+ Middle School orchestra players every day. I have several Peterson strobe tuners and this is as good. The Pro is a whopping $1.97!!
