Seems like a good choice for fretboard lumber would be something hard and heavy like Ipe as it would look the part but hold up well if one was worried about wear.

Apologies for the tuning question, for a flat bridge I use DAD with the bass drone being an octave lower. I'm currently planning a build of a large bass version, of approximately 44 inches in length, and currently have a 20inch three string traditional sized one, two 2string 20~ inch or so, a mid-size 30 inch length version as well. I really like the deep sound achievable from the larger ones.
