Honeycomb Tops

I'm wondering if anyone here can point me in the direction of more information about honeycomb tops. In a post I made before there was mention of a honeycomb use in laminates, I'm wondering if there's more.

Re: What do you check before sending out a guitar?

I agree, there are some really innovative stuff being done with laminates. I doubt it would be found on a $400 guitar, which is the quality I am trying to make that point apply to. My writing isn't the best so I see where the confusion is. I'm trying to say that as a whole the laminate top is weaker...

What do you check before sending out a guitar?

In short: What quality checks on a guitar do you make before sending them out the door or pronouncing them done? When deciding if I've finished an acoustic guitar I'll go over it a look for around 15 things related to musicality, playability and quality. I thought I'd turn that checklist into a guid...

Re: falcate bracing

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the feedback. I'm definitely toeing the line between informational and promotional. It's a line that I'm learning to walk as I make content for my website. I'll try to better differentiate between which is which and post here accordingly.

Re: falcate bracing

I'll introduce myself a little better. I'm the marketing person for my dad, Jay. His full name is Jay DIckinson and he builds under the name Portland Guitar. He's a mechanical engineer and been building for around 15 years. Even though I'm posting as myself most of what I share are my dads thoughts ...

falcate bracing

Falcate Bracing There have been many bracing designs used over the course of Jay’s building career. When he started out with a kit, the bracing used was an x-bracing pattern A good learning experience. There were difficulties present. Shaping each brace to the curvature of the body was a tedious and...

Re: Split Saddle Bridge and Nut for Intonation

I searched for the eharmonic fretboard and all I found was that it was an alternative tuning. Can you please explain the idea to me more or link to some materials. I appreciate your response to this and I'm thrilled to take this somewhere new. The tilt neck design isn't new, but I still think it's p...

Split Saddle Bridge and Nut for Intonation

Hello, I really like all the resources that forum provides, I've enjoyed reading the discussions. One of my influences as been Gore and Gilet's Design and Build . One of the places where I felt these books lacked was a proper solution to intonation problems. The process described by Gore and Gilet i...

Re: Acoustic/electric dreadnaught, adjustable neck

That's beautiful, I love the adjustment in the heel block, so easy to use. This is really similar to the adjustable neck that I use.
