Floating pickup without pickguard

I found that the pickguard absorbs a huge ammount of sound. if you think about it it's a huge wooden tongue that picks up vibration and dissipates it. it might be helpful to fix it with one of those brackets but if it's smaller, which i like, the bracket should be really long and ugly. i'd like to u...

Additional transverse bracing in x bracing

Benedetto briefly talks about adding transverse bracing to an x bracing to reinforce the structure. I don't get why they should be this much useful in reinforcing since x bracing is already stiffening in that direction but it's weaker along the grain compared to parallel. What i do get is that they ...

Re: Bridge height, how low can you go?

Thanks a lot! It seems that i should be fine lowering my neck a bit more then, i myself can't think of too many reasons why a higher bridge should be better if the break angle stays the same, in theory a lower bridge is also lighter. The only thing that comes to mind is that Ken Parker in a conferen...

Bridge height, how low can you go?

I need to do the final fitting between the neck and body of my benedetto. If i place a straightedge over the frets i now have a 1" gap at the bridge, but i still have a lot of wood under my neck extension, and it looks a bit weird. I don't know why since i followed the measures from the plans, my to...

Re: Dome height

Hi Alan, thank you for the reply, i knew some of your work before posting and i really apreciate your research and willingness to share. The plan i have calls for 14,5 mm for the top and 12 for the back, measured from the upper edge of the plates (the 0 of the recurve). Benedetto instead uses 17,5 a...

Dome height

Hi, i'm currently working on a benedetto 17" and my next project will be a 16", i bought a plan of an old L5 and i'm adding a cutaway and some frets, i will use x bracing and i'm also probably going to use different fholes. I noticed that on this plan the back dome is less tall than the top, while o...
