I significantly reduced the hum in my LP Special DC style build by placing an "air coil" in the control cavity. I used an old ceramic Tele bridge pickup sans the magnet. Wired it up in series after the pickup switch, and can bypass it with a push/pull pot. It doesn't cut 100% of the hum, a...

At the ReRanch site under "Basic Refinishing" then "Aerosol Sunbursts", they recommend making a cardboard template slightly smaller than your guitar body, and spraying your burst from the edge, so you'll get a slight amount of feathering to soften the line of the black or brown b...

I think one of the biggest mistakes I made on my earlier guitars was trying to dimension the neck width/string taper exactly on the saw as opposed to going slightly oversized and then sanding to fit. I ended up with sloppy neck joints that I then had to use veneer to "shim" on either side ...
