Re: Giveaway- LMI Richlite and Rocklite fingerboards (classical)

I like Lmii, I have received some very nice wood from them. Always delivered quickly, and very fine quality. I would love to try the new fingerboard materials.

Re: Milestone Day

Hi again Eric, I love western red cedar, I have used It about a dozen times with great results. I do remember a discussion on this web site about western red cedar having a tendency to have their bridges pull off. As I recall the glue would hold to the wood, but the top layer of wood would separate....

Re: Milestone Day

It looks good Eric. Sleepless nights thinking about the next steps, is part of the fun. Enjoy the ride. I like the wood you chose for the soundboard, it has character. I am looking forward to seeing your progress.

Re: Finish for goncalo

I have built two acoustic guitars with Goncalo Alves. I finishes them with Mohawk Lacquer. They finished very nice. It is a very tight grained wood. I like this wood, and have bought a few more sets of it. They had a very bright tone, very clear, and projected well.

Re: children's toy drive guitars

I put all of the guitars in cases with picks, a tuner, and a book, so the children would have everything they needed to get started. The electric guitars also included a 10 watt amp, and cord.

3/4 size Les Paul Jr's for Christmas

I build guitars as a hobby. For the last few years I have given 5 guitars each to two different children's holiday toy drives. One is the LA County Federation of Labor's "Toys and Turkeys" drive, and the other is CBS and the Salvation Army's "Angel Tree" toy drive. For the first ...

Re: Another newbie's number one!

Very, Very Nice. I think the walnut back is great. I use walnut a lot. It works well and sounds great. I love the hummingbird inlay, and all the details. Great Job. Enjoy number two. Yes, this guitar building thing is additive! What is the wood you used on the soundboards for the ukes. It is very in...

Re: Christmas guitar project

Hi Everybody, Thanks for the response. Len, I talked to the County Fed., and they told me that what they do is gather all the donations, bikes, guitars, toys, etc, then ask the parents what is the best gift for their child. I think this is the best I can do. My hope is that the guitars go to childre...

Re: Christmas guitar project

I failed to mention that I put them in "Gator" padded gig bags, and included "Hal Leonard" guitar for kids books, picks and chromatic tuners in each gig bag. With the exception of the full size classical, which I put in a hard shell case. I could not find a reasonable hard case f...

Christmas guitar project

Just thought I would share this. Last Christmas I donated a 3/4 size guitar to the LA County Federation of Labor's Christmas toy drive. They were very nice and sent me a thank you letter. So this last year I built 5 guitars to donate to their toy drive. One was a full size classical, three were 3/4 ...

Re: Western White Pine tone?

A few years ago I made two guitars with pine soundboards for one of our challenges. They were both small travel guitars, but they sound great, and have held up very well. I keep one of them at work, to play at lunch all the time. One is an all pine guitar, soundboard, back and sides. You may have tr...

Re: Question about making Solera

Hi Joel, I used MDF for my solera, and it works fine. I don't think you need to laminate hardwood to it. I have not read Roy Coutnail's book, but the 3mm sounds about right for the neck angle. However, you have to consider the thickness of the fretboard, and height of the bridge. I have built severa...

Hi Doug, I just finished a "Fat Boy" in Feb, and like it very much. Pictures are posted here on this forum. I am now building a second one with Walnut and Sitka. It is a very nice project. However the "Fat Boy" is not a very "big" guitar. I don't want speak for Mark, bu...

Re: The Octofone 2.0

Very, Very nice Mark! I love it. I too would like to hear a sound clip. It is a beautiful instrument. I noticed some nice variation on the binding. Is it wood, or vinyl. I like the cherry very much. I am using cherry for the first time on a 3/4 size classical, now. The two toned bridge is also very ...

Re: Harlequin "Fat Boy", and Weissenborn new builds

Thanks for the comments. Jason, I used sitka spruce for the bracing that I bought from "Alaska Specialty Woods.com". They sell a box of bracing wood. I followed the bracing on Mark's plan as close as I could. I am at work today, and don't have the plans in front of me, but It is X braced w...
