Re: 5 string acoustic bass bass guitar
5" at tail, 4"at neck, 1/4" over the plan. On the other I think it was 1/2" deeper than that because I had wider sides before bending.

Re: 5 string acoustic bass bass guitar
Forgot to say these are both 4 string ABGs so no headstock design for a 5. I'll measure the body depth when I'm in the shop tonite. I use two way Bitterroot truss rods lately.

Re: 5 string acoustic bass bass guitar
I've built / building two. Both 34" scale on J200 body shape. First used a modified bracing pattern from Mark Stanley's plan to fit the 200 so the bridge was very low on the lower bout. Fret board / body at 14th fret. Bracing 5/32" x 1/2"or 5/8". The one I'm finishing now has a Martin 2nd neck, fret...

If your using them on a fender style neck, they worked fine on a repair for me.

Re: Thicknessing Binding.
I glue purfling to the edge of binding with TB3 using a bunch of the small plastic spring clamps from HF. If you open up the pads they index around the binding and purfling. Works good for me. Then I tape them together and use the fox type bender. If there's enough space they can be bent with their ...

Hah! I did that recently cutting a neck to length so now it's a butt joint rather than mortise and tendon.

Re: Wow! Rulers Are Not the Same! Recommend An Accurate Straight-Edge?
I got a 24" Woodpeckers straight edge. Measurement marks are very accurate. It is pricey...@ $50, but it is a straight edge not a ruler. I've gotten the measuring stuff from taylortoolworksllc too and been very satisfied.

Re: Making fretboard inlay dots
I recently tried this with plug cutters and found if I used the slowest speed on the drill press it worked best. Might not melt the plastic. I was using 1/8" veneer.

As I recall now that's what I did with the 320 paper, sand the first coats into the wood.

Re: Acoustic guitar Finishing advice
I use it for necks. I like the feel it leaves. I usually go to 320 on the surface prep and use a finishing synthetic steel wool pad after each 3 coats, applying 12 to 20 coats in all. Stop when it feels good to you.

Re: Downdraft table - suction?
The point of the downdraft table is to collect the dust. The vac might work but something like this might work better, https://www.harborfreight.com/13-gallon-industrial-portable-dust-collector-31810.html?_br_psugg_q=dust+collector. It will still be noisy though. I've got my dust collector in an out...

Glad it worked for you.
How about a pic of the finish? I don't use solid color finishes, but would be interested to see what it looked like.
What powder and what was mix in the clear finish?

Re: Pearl Powder for Waterbased finish
Check out mica powders at craft stores or amazon. Lots of colors available. I've gotten it (in a gold sparkle) at a bead/jewelry making store. I Mixed it in clear epoxy and used it like inlay. Try it on scrap to see if it will do what you want.
