Best straight edge size for tuning up guitars

I've lost my old Starrett 24", and am looking online for a good but cheap straight edge to tune up fretboards etc so to speak. There is a 30" I was also looking at but Im just getting one. This is for 25" scales, electric, dreds etc, Will 24" do it or should I go for the 30"?

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

Ok, I was talking about a tenon joint for bolt on, no dovetail. Im thinking I will have to make the tenon, 3 more weeks until I get the neck and see what they sent. I do remember hollowing out the heel which will make things easier, Im using mainly hand tools but I can spin the drill press a bit by ...

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

I meant I will probably have to glue the tenon on, and so that will creat the 90* angle to sand the angle into the heel. I cant sand the heel manually if its just flat.

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

I think its flat on the heel, I will probably have to add" a bolt on attachment. I did see they offer a spanish heel but I need to keep it as simple as possible but maybe I could have got the bolt on out of that style with some saw work, oh well. Epoxy, screws and some spare mahogany. I like th...

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

Id rather use a truss rod just in case of any issues. I doubt that wood is selected and quartered, but it will be bolt-on, in case of future issues.

Cool - I can check out Kinkaids book at the library. And Youtube may fill in the gaps.

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

Good info. Yes I did a build I need to finish, I need to put a back on, but will probably get opinions on it as I think the braces will be too thin... I guess I will wait for my neck to arrive and go from there. :D Im basing this off the little Ibanez Parlor guitar, so that is my ''plan'' more or le...

Ziricote Fretboard - chipping issues with Fret install?

Ok, so Im building my dream Parlor guitar as you may know and am looking at an LMI Ziricote fretboard (pre-slotted). I would use that good LMI epoxy to glue it to the neck, but what about Fretting? Does Ziri chip out easier? is it a pain to work with? ALSO: Will I need to thickness it down any (1/4&...

Re: Length Truss Rod for Parlor Guitar?

Ok, so I found a 16" with a Gibson style nut" Option. Which end is easiest to install to for adjustment?. Which end do you prefer? With a Chinese neck, Mahogany, Im thinking I would prefer soundhole adjustment. (?)

Using Dowl rods for Side Mold?

Ok, so the bandsaw is out of commission, so has anyone built a successful side mold with dowel rods?

The hot-mold will need to be sawed out somehow but I can do that with a rasp and some saw action, the inside mold is what Im needing. Any good designs with limited tool use?

Right, the Cherry one, saw that.

How does that side soundhole effect the sound (when you plug it) is there a noticeble difference.
