stablilizing hairline crack during glue up

I am making an electric guitar based on a carvin through neck. I cut down the body portion .5" to accept a cap of the same dimension. The cap is Kauri and cost about $150. It cupped upward. I boiled a kettle of water and glued the lamination on the carvin with Gorilla glue which needs water to ...

straightening a cupped half inch cap

The cap for my new electric guitar build is 1/2" and is cupped upward with a 1/8 inch bow in the center, What can I do to straighten this flat? I can just clamp it flat, but this is using a carvin thru neck and so will be glueing the sides and the top cap at the same time, likely will glue wing...

Re: Bandsaw Throat Plate

Well just put in the throat plate today. I set up two parallel alum flat bar on the table and clamped them down, then pushed the throat plate into the blade till it seated some what in the opening. Obviously shutting down the machine for safety. I had to trim a little bit off the edges of the plasti...

Re: Tonal Characteristics of Cherry?

Jeff There are no Tonal Characteristics of Cherry, even wood from the same tree is different. This of course we are talking about solid body electric guitars. A good little explanation is Roger Seminoffs book on electric guitar construction. Most mfgs today are indebted to him and his patents or for...

Re: Bandsaw Throat Plate

I am dealing with the throat plate right now, I suggest making a template first since the slot in my plate is off center, Rockler has them available unslotted online. Anyway that is what I did

Finish for a Kauri cap

Kauri
has a unique way of reflecting light, so want a gloss finish to take advantage of that trait. What would you recommend or do you have experience finishing kauri?

Piezo install on classical guitar bridge

I am in process of building a classical solid body guitar. It will use a classical bridge made out of Kauri and piezo pu. The Piezo uses 3-20mm disks for the pu. The company selling them recommends that they be as close to the vibration source as possible. Their answer to my question I think was del...

need source for pecky cypress for el git lamination

I have a Warmoth Tele swamp ash body that I have reshaped, I normally build from scratch, but plan on planing this down and laminating pecky cypress to the top, I have been web searching, but have yet to find a source for a bd that I can laminate in one or two pieces. Anyway, if you know of a source...

Piezo for classical solid body nylon guitar

Well my pre-teen granddaughter took her applause .75 size nylon classical and it got stepped on. However the neck is intact. So am thinking about building a solid body chambered nylon string guitar using the applause neck, but what I need help with is a recommendation for a piezo PU system that fits...

applying veneer to an existing guitar

I am planning to buy a Les Paul like guitar and apply a flame maple veneer (very thin) to its top, I just wonder I think the thk will be 1/16" or less, but hope that the hardware has enough adjustment to compensate. if this were a fender style bolt on neck, I would simply glue the veneer to the...

source for low impedance pickups

I am looking for low impedance pu so I can go directly from the guitar to a mixing board for one of my custom guitars.
I have used search engines but could not find a source, wondering if you know anyone who makes them?

Re: midi trigger for outdoor drums played by rain

If I use the paia midi brain, they will accept 8 triggers, so if I need more, it is more brains. The problem is like what we experienced back in the early days of Moog and Arp synths, where it would only play one note at a time, it may be that 60 rain drops hit the drum head at the same time or near...

Re: Outdoor drum played by rain

I forgot about this company, but www.paia.com has the midi brain kit (has to be soldered and assembles) and and an amp kit to boast signal strength, so that would take care of the brain, then I can order piezo sensors from ebay. Am currently thinking that maybe even salad containers or tupperware ty...

Re: Home Annealing of Hardened Drill Rod?

First of all forget about the color of heat, that info has no value for you. The charcoal grill is a good idea for a forge. You want to get the drill steel up to critical temp, that is the temp that it loses magnetism no matter what the color is. So, test with a magnet, when you have reached critica...

midi trigger for outdoor drums played by rain

I am planning to build outdoor drums that will be played by the rain. I live near Seattle so that for much of the year we have no lack of rain. What I want to do is to build a midi trigger inside the drum. Where I see the problem is that midi triggers are monophonic and rain would obviously be polyp...
