Re: Progress on Guitar #3
Eric, I'm curious as to how much downweight you have on the router jig. I can't tell if you have the cable on a crank or a counterweight. I bought a jig that looks to be pretty good (patterned after the Stew Mac design, more or less) but as it is, the entire weight of the router (Bosch Colt) would ...

Re: Can this neck be saved?
Here's what I've come up with. I used a modified tool to gouge a narrow channel where the maple veneer should be. I will get some black epoxy or CA glue and fill the channel. This guitar is still a learning instrument so making a new neck is not necessary. Here's what the channel looks like now. nec...

Can this neck be saved?
Another rookie mistake. When I was gluing this laminated neck together I put a piece of maple veneer in the middle. It appears to have slipped when clamping and now that I'm shaping the neck it is not big enough to appear. The neck is almost to the final thickness in the photo and all you can see is...

Re: Paper for label?
Thanks, everyone. I was overthinking and was wondering if some fancy system was needed. My third guitar is still just a learning experience and adding a label is one of the new things I'm doing. I don't know when I'll make one that feels like I've graduated.

Paper for label?
Hi, all.
What kind of paper do you use for your labels that are glued to the inside of the back on an acoustic guitar? And what kind of glue?
Thanks,
-Eric

Re: First Headstock Logo
Looks pretty good. One way to clean up the edges of the inlay after sawing it out is to use a set of needle files. Also, practice removing less wood and getting a tighter fit. What did you color your glue with? I got new set of diamond needle files but didn't spend enough time with them. That's fir...

First Headstock Logo
Hello, Here's my first attempt at making a headstock logo/emblem/badge, or whatever they're called. The wood is ebony, the inlay is Tagua nut, one of my favorite materials. ejk - 1.jpeg If you use magnification and good lighting you can see all the flaws. If that's what it takes then I'm calling thi...

Re: Progress on Guitar #3
Well done. Thank you! You guitar looks beautiful in spite of non matching back and sides. Just for the record, the back and sides came from the same walnut board. They match very well in person. I resawed the parts myself and wanted to try doing laminated sides. The outer layer is that walnut. The ...

Progress on Guitar #3
Finally! I had a really hard time with the binding on guitar 3. I used gramils and did the binding channels by hand for guitars 1 and 2 but ran into some serious roadblocks on #3. It was a tale of two steps forward and three steps backward many times. I think this issue was this guitar has pretty th...

Re: Question About Sitka
Where do you get boards like that? I am in Madison, WI, which is home to many boat and airplane makers. This place has been supplying those folks for a long time. https://mccormicklumber.com/sitka-spruce I was able to go through a large stack of boards, some much bigger than the one I picked. I lik...

I use these instructions to build my radius dishes. I have checked them carefully and they are correct. Mine are 24" in diameter.

Re: Another Side Port Done
How do you do the binding inside the porthole with that double curvature? I can't get it done without it splitting. I tried using a wide strip over sized then cutting back to the contours of the side but cannot get it into the oval soundhole without splitting. Are they laminated? If so how. Please ...

Re: First Guitar as done as it's going to be.
+1 for the idea of a multi scale 7-string. I built a 7 string, short-scale (24.75"), archtop guitar and I'm still playing around with string gauges, trying to get a low B that sounds good acoustically. Plugged in (Seymour Duncan "Benedetto" floating pickup) it sounds quite good with ...
