Re: Another 17" archtop

John.
Is your bridge hollow?
Also I see that you did not use a saddle made from bone or other. I love the cherry..

Re: Small changes make a big difference at the bridge

Are the tailpiece holes drilled all the way through the tailpiece?
I like that look with the D’Addario colors exposed.

Re: Baritone or 7 string?

How tall are your sides? I went with 2 ¾”. Do you think 3” or more is what is needed for a baritone.?
Also, I don’t think the tone wood will make a huge difference as Taylor uses both spruce and Mahanoy.

Re: Baritone or 7 string?

.016 - .070 Elxer . these are designed for the Taylor Baritone 8. Tension is less than Taylors I think. It has been a while sense I played one. This guitar and my previous one has a free zero fret with only enough down pressure to keep the strings from buzzing on the zero fret. Bends are softer on t...

Re: Baritone or 7 string?

Just finished my 27 ½” scale, 8 string baritone (8 string like Taylors tuned B to B) so it fits in a standard case. It is in the parker-sh style and has a laminated 1mm cherry/linen cloth top. This top was my first test molded top in the vacuum bag. It looked good so I thought I would use it on the ...

Re: using two Piezo strips in a hollow nonadjustable bridge?

Here is a dumb test I made today. I put about I” of the piezo cable under the back side of my hollow bridge with volume nearly off and it produced a fair amount of sound. With nearly 6” of piezo under the bridge it was notably louder. This pickup is LR Baggs SL Anthem with pre-amp The first shows th...

Re: Anyone use Chladini testing for archtops?

Thanks Alan,
I did purchase this book.plate tuning series in 'American Lutherie' back in '91-92: it should be in the GAL 'Red Book #3
So, my test plates came in low, so I’m adding the braces a little thick to see if this will help.

Re: Grellier OM Bracing Pattern

Thank you, Mark. Little tips like that are like money in the bank. When I drive through GR towards Interlochen I hope to have something that sort of looks like a guitar to show you.

Eric, if your passing through GR towards Interlochen I'm on the way as well love to see your work.

using two Piezo strips in a hollow nonadjustable bridge?

Any ideas on using two Piezo strips in a hollow nonadjustable bridge? I would think that the piezo strip would rest on a thin piece of wood/fiber material between the bridge base and the top plate. Because my bridges are hollow I could use either one or two piezo strips. My thoughts are that the pie...

Re: How thin can a finger board be?

Thanks guys, this is just more of a curiosity.
Would there be any reason the fret board could not be sized to the thickness of the fret tang and just insert sections between the frets?

How thin can a finger board be?

I working on a kitchen cabinet project that has a lot of curly Hickory, all veneered.
It just got me wondering if anyone has used veneers for a finger board. Maybe the thickness of the fret tangs?
