Home made fret wire former. Drawing

I left out 1 dimension on the previous drawing this should be complete, none of this is critical the only exception would be to center the tang roller between the anvil rollers.

Re: Conn flat top bridge repair revisited

Upon further inspection, The area behind the bridge is relatively flat leading up to the bridge, the bridge it's self is slightly tilted forward after re gluing and clamping, then the top falls off like a roller coaster to the sound hole. (exaggeration) As to using the bridge doctor which I intend t...

Re: Conn flat top bridge repair

I have done some bridge repair on this flat top acoustic, I have re secured the bridge to the body but the body/top is also pulled up causing the bridge to set to high, I need ideas on pulling it back down and how to secure/brace it. My thoughts have been to fabricate a light weight block of wood i...

Zero Nuts why?

What is the reason or purpose of the zero fret? This is the same guitar I have mentioned on here with bridge issues, this same Conn F20 guitar has a zero fret and I am not finding any like it, I found some models of classical Conn's with the zero fret but not the F 20.

Re: Luthier's project, flattop, needs to be completed, will pay $

To make a long story short, I have a guitar I had been working on only I never got around to finishing it. As far as I can tell, it needs 1)the remaining waterbase finish removed, 2) Finish sanding and cleaning 3)the bindings and purflings filled with shellac stick or whatever. I am not concerned a...

Re: Home made fret wire former.

*WARNING : PEDANT ALERT* . All my fingerboards are conical and each fret has it's own radius. I start with a 2' dia. spool of fretwire and open out one end while I try to tighten the radius on the other. (My first fret is around 7" radius and the 24th is 20" or so.) Dave, I am sure you pr...

Re: Home made fret wire former.

Do these rollers work on the last 1/2" or so of the wire? That's always been my problem with fine tuning a fret's curvature. All my fingerboards are conical and each fret has it's own radius. I start with a 2' dia spool of fretwire and open out one end while I try to tighten the radius on the ...

Re: Conn flat top bridge repair

Whoh...let's not throw the baby wookie out with the wig factory trash! Epoxy formulations vary quite a bit, and some repairs that are simply not economically feasible with traditional methods are doable with a good structural epoxy. Yes - quick-cure grocery store epoxies like the 5 minute Devcon st...

Re: Home made fret wire former.

Gordon Bellerose, I don't buy quantities of wire but what I do buy is in 30" straight lengths, as to what it does as apposed to bending wire by hand or pliers is form a uniform concentric radius in the wire. You can feed through a 30" or what ever length section of wire and just cut into s...

Re: Home made fret wire former.

I wish I had your metalworking skills. This has worked for me, from stuff around the place and some patio door rollers. The flathead screw adjusts the radius of curvature for the fretwire. The thumbnut (on the screw) and the wingnut (on the 1/4-20 bolt that serves as the axle of the grooved roller)...

Re: This Baby Needs a Better Joint

Access to machine tools and the knowledge to use them is the vital component in the dowel repair. I may in the future offer such services, I an approaching retirement and I am not likely to loose my desire to design fabricate and fix or the tools to do it with.

Alan I've been a tool and die maker for 35 yrs and have become fairly good at applying the old if there is a will there's a a way concept. one thought that just came to me would be to set it up and drill and ream a light press fit for matching dowel pin hole/holes in both the neck and body and use h...
