Re: Optimum String Height Above Body??

1/2" string height at the bridge would seem to be about the norm and always gives me good results with just the right amount of bridge torque.

Re: LMI steel string slot head using bushings for gotoh 3 on a plate tuners

The only slot head 3 on a plate ones I can find on the LMI site are these ones.

And if we look at the schematic, it shows no bushings used.

Re: Source for quartered curly cherry

I would try RC Tonewoods http://rctonewoods.com/RCT_Store/cherry ... -7505.html as they sometimes have some very nice curly cherry and might just have an off cut to suit your needs.

Re: LMI steel string slot head using bushings for gotoh 3 on a plate tuners

None of my slot head guitars have bushings, but some of the machines I have used require the outside hole to be a little larger than the inside one. All work perfectly, but I do use a tiny smear of silicone pipe lube in the inner hole. I've just done a quick search and to be honest I can't find any ...

Re: My Classical Guitar analysis

Guitar Six- DEAD ON spot on in tune all over every fret Try as I might, I have found this impossible to achieve even with my best intonation and compensation efforts, it all seems a bit of a compromise to me, some notes are spot on, but there are as many that are sharp and as many flat, probably du...

Re: Strat Truss Rod Issue

Continued with the penetrating oil overnight and this morning used almost excessive force on the adjustment nut and it turned suddenly :)

I have now been able able to wind it both ways and to get it running free - it's a good save for the client.

Re: Strat Truss Rod Issue

My guess is that the rod will need to be replaced, because if it is spinning then it is not anchored at the other end and must have broken loose. It can't work when that has happened. Hi Mark No it's not spinning at all, it's just winding up a quarter of a turn and then returning to the original po...

Strat Truss Rod Issue

Hi Guys, I have in for repair an 80's American Strat and the neck has a back bow. This guitar has been stored in a basement for more than 20 years and although cosmetically, it is still perfect, there is a very slight raised area at the back of the neck on the skunk stripe probably where the truss r...

Re: Where to buy quality solid-body blanks in UK?

Hi Toby and welcome to the forum. I would try David Dyke at http://www.luthierssupplies.co.uk/ and Bob Smith at http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/ both have a fantastic selection and are easy to deal with. Always best to see in person what you are buying though, but neither of these suppliers will le...

Re: New Classical

It's a beauty Ernest, the quilted mahogany is so gorgeous I want to touch it! Also love the basket weave rosette, you should be very proud as it is not only striking, but it's subtle too as the colours blend beautifully with the rest of the instrument - a fine balance in my opinion and a thum...

I have some 'bog' oak fretboard blanks that I bought here in the UK, it's the the most dense oak I have ever come across and is as black as night with silvery black medullary rays showing - absolutely beautiful. I got my blanks from http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/Woods_List/Bog_Oak.asp which actua...

Re: Materials for jig making.

The face of MDF is hard and wears well but the edges are soft. If you need the edge to be hard apply several coats of CA glue. Be careful when applying CA to MDF edges, it soaks up a vast amount very quickly and then proceeds to smoke as the CA cures. DAMHIKT  Once applied tho, it does produc...

Re: Major glue and veneer blunders -- are they recoverable?

You should be able to remove the black veneer from the neck quite easily by using a clothes iron seeing as you used Titebond. Glue does penetrate through thin veneers as you have found out to your cost and I believe polyurethane glues are very resistant to heat, so the clothes iron may not work here...

Re: Binder and Purfling bending for classical guitars and ukes

Hi Bill, I have to agree with DT, it's most likely runout on the bindings that's causing the problems. You could try a metal backer to see if that helps, but ultimately it may be best to acquire some new bindings and have another go. 0.080" ought to be ok with rosewood, ebony though is a differ...
