Re: locating cuase of buzz/hum.
What kind of pickups are you using? In my experience, whatever that means, a single coil pickup will always hum. Shielded cover, shielded cable, shielded cavity: it will always hum. If these are humbucking pickups and they are humming, test the pickup itself before or disconnected from the controls ...

Re: Getting back to it - Questions re...a fretless bass??
Most of my experience is with Fender style basses: The nut slots can almost be right down to the fingerboard. The clearance on a doublebass is usually described as the thickness of a piece of paper. If you have a Fender type nut slot, you may need to remove the nut to do the final shaping of the slo...

Re: New Century violin - circa 1902 - pick out the repairs needed?
I don't think anyone here would attempt to give a comprehensive list of repairs without having the instrument in hand. My guess is there is no maker's label or other identifiers in the violin. These instruments were imported in great quantities and sold under the importer's brand. Probably of German...

Re: help trying to wire HH, 2 vol with split coil, 1 tone, 3 way level swicht
Jose, The 5th wire, which is bare (probably) is connected to the plate of the pickup and helps reduce noise. Is the first diagram the one that came with the pickups you are using? If so, it says that the black wire is already connected to the shield. That is the side of the pickup that should be con...

Re: Kentucky Mandolin Tuning Key screw
"How difficult can it be to find one little screw?" In the old days, you'd find a repair guy with a huge box of old machines and parts. I never had much luck with that method. I would start with customer service at SAGAmusic.com. If they can't supply a replacement, then try to determine th...

Re: Martin 0-18 with multiple problems
Here's my 2 cents, a bargain at half the price... I propose the guitar was subjected to prolonged high heat (a car in summer). Things started to loosen and the (flaw in the) sides gave way before the soundboard on either side of the fingerboard. Frank Ford has an article on this problem . He ties th...

Re: 6 way rotary switch wiring diagram
You need to create your own diagram. Get the switch and examine how it works. You'll need to think of each coil separately. This is a good exercise, but start early in the day. You're going to get big differences in volume as you go through the positions, so you might consider that when you decide t...

Re: Gibson LG-0 bridge
The plastic Gibson bridges I've seen are "skeletonized" underneath with receptacles for the sheet metal screws that held it on. I am guessing that someone filled the bridge with epoxy or whatever then glued and screwed it back on. If it is glued on well, perhaps you should just fill the cr...

http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luthier/Technique/Guitar/NeckReset/BCRIchReset/bcrichreset1.html Here is an article by our host, Frank Ford, on resetting the neck on a steel string guitar built with a Spanish heel. He mentions several options but the one he employs is the way to go. Some people use ...

Google "Replacement Rosette for Ovation guitar". I saw a thread on an "Ovation Lovers" forum where someone had indeed gotten a replacement from Ovation. This took place in 2017 so it might still be possible. http://ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=48026 Find ...

Re: Mysterious Nut Job
I'd go for replacing, as well. but I don''t know what's on the inside of the box. The jack may also send signal to the XLR jack (like on some epiphones) as well as switching the battery.

Re: Mysterious Nut Job
That looks like it might be a bit larger than the nut for an Asian 1/4" jack, but I would go to your local guitar repair guy and ask if he has something that fits. Next choice would be your local amp repair guy. Next choice would be a decent hardware store. If they have something that fits, it ...

Re: Need help with unusual wiring
There will be no snickering about my diagram. I've had the graph paper since grade school (a while ago). The wiring is 3 on/off/on-reverse phase with the outputs tied to a master volume and tone. The volume/tone circuit here is the "50s Gibson" wiring. I used it for no particular reason. S...

Re: Need help with unusual wiring
The way you have it wired, the volume controls will interact when you have more than one pick up on. Think of typical Gibson wiring. If you connect the pick ups to the center lug of the volume pots and the other lug to the switch, you'll be able to blend multiple pick ups a bit better. Think of a Ja...
