Re: Oak Classical

Man, that guitar looks like a living thing. Awesome. I've got a ton of red oak milled up from some storm damage here. The most of it will be flooring for my shop, and a tiny house, but I'm holding back the clear QS stuff, and you've given me some inspiration. How does the unfilled oak feel? Any diff...

Hand cut or CNC? Going to be stunning either way.

Re: Getting back into building- tips?

Cool. I haven't played instruments from either builder. Can you perceive, if not a difference in quality, a general difference in tone?

No help on the tooling, but I’m curious what it’s for?

Re: Body carve

That’s a nice slice there. Very satisfying.

Tangentially, your process reminded me of *something* I used to see on TV in the 70s. It’s just ringing a bell, especially the 4th photo. Maybe from PBS.

Huh... I’ll stay awake on that for a while tonight.

I really dig your headstock logo. And the rest of the guitar looks really nice - colors, shapes, grain complement each other well.

Re: neck transplant

I like that head stock. Are the enclosed tuners traditional or something you came up with?

Did the donor get a new neck?

Re: Walnut Classical - Chuck Tweedy

That's just a perfect piece of walnut. We milled up some last week. I had high hopes for a couple logs to be figured, but though the grain was interesting it wasn't flamed.

+1 on a close up of rosette/purfling.

Re: June 2020- How/What is everyone doing?

As mentioned in another post, I’ve been working on finishing a dedicated shop space. Also establishing our garden space, brewing the odd batch of beer, and milking logs from last summer’s storms. That’s on top of a family
With three kids, and teaching remotely. Been a strange but ok time.

Re: New shop lights?

Update: my time has been taken by a structural problem in the roof of the shed where I’m establishing by shop. Bad news, it’s a pain in the neck, good news I’ve got more time to contemplate lights and wiring.

Darrel, just how big is the ass on those lights?
