Classical guitar repair

I'm looking for an expert repairman for a Contrerez of Madrid classical guitar I bought in 1977. I live 50 mi west of Washington DC. The guitar has cracks on the sound board one of which was previously repaired 20 years ago. I've been building and repairing violins for 20 years but don't know squat ...

Re: help with final finishing/polishing of varnish

Maybe violin #4 will be better! Each one does get better, but I'm warning you, they are never as good as you want. <g> You're so right. But after you play one for a while and nurse it to it's best potential it gets to be like a good significant other. Full of flaws but better than you deserve.

Re: My Latest Two Violins

Thank you for the pictures of your peg process John. I have a small hobby lathe, Sherline, which doesn't have a compound slide. I'm surprised you don't do more shaping of the thumbpiesce with the lathe. I've envisioned a template blade much like the ones used in shapers for moulding. Do you use the ...

Re: My Latest Two Violins

Your work look very nice. I love the originality. How difficult was it to bend the ebony ribs? I'd love to learn to turn pegs since I have a good supply of Dogwood that I think would make great fittings. Do you have any advice on setting up to turn pegs? Perhaps you would feel better about selling y...

Re: Who's here now?

Hello from an inveterate lurker. I haven't visited here for a while but I do recognize some names from the past. I built my first violin in Bill Moll's class around 1998, the same class as Jim. I also took CT's rehair class and Amy Hopkin's inlay class here. Since then I've built 20 violins, 5 Cello...
