Uke neck angle

Do most build with no neck angle? The plans i'm working from have the neck and top co-planar. seems like i'll end up with a very thin fretboard if i shoot for 10-12mm off the top at the saddle and 2mm above the fret crown at the 12th.

Re: SawStop and fret slotting

Chris, i have a Benchdog table extension which took the place of the SS melamine covered extension. I already had a Jessem Mast -r- lift on my dedicated router table that fit right in it. There was some slight modification to the fence rails. the addd weight of the iron extensions tended to shift th...

Re: SawStop and fret slotting

Bob, i replaced one of the table extensions with a router table and lift, allowing me to eliminate the dedicated router table from my shop. the saw is pricey, but it will outlive me.

Re: SawStop and fret slotting

I have the professional. very well made saw, technology aside. I replaced an old Powermatic contractor saw. no comparison. I strongly recommend the hydraulic mobile base if you need to move the saw around, much better than the integrated base. There is a local dealer in my town and choose to buy fro...

Re: neck and setup specs for concert uke

Thanks for the info. Being a newbie to bolt on necks (up to this point, i've built all my guitars with Spanish heels) and ukuleles i'm going to let the questions keep rolling. I'm planning on a bolt on, butt neck body join. would one 10/24 insert be enough? 1/4" seems to big. two inserts seems overk...

Re: neck and setup specs for concert uke

Thanks. do you radius your fret boards? they're so small, not sure it would make any difference.

Being a classical player, I'm struck by how narrow uke necks are. other than convention, why not make them a bit wider for ease of playing?

neck and setup specs for concert uke

I've played one ukulele in my life so i don't have much to go on. what are some standard parameters for 1) string heights above fret at 12th, and 2) saddle height off top?

Re: Quality classical tuners recemendation wanted

I am very fond of Gilbert tuners. every bit as smooth as Rogers. Made in California. Some don't like the unconventional look however.

ukulele neck/body join

Starting my first ukulele, a concert. considering the small diameter of the sound hole, i'm assuming a bolt on neck is not used. Are most built with glued M&T or dovetails? I'm a classical builder, considering an old fashioned Spanish heel.

Are the tops typically built flat rather than domed?

Re: sticky Waverly tuners

Being unfamiliar with steel string tuners I wasn't sure what to expect. I know the Grovers on my 40+ y.o. D35 are not nearly this tight. The Waverly's feel real smooth when not under string load. There is a little slop between the post and the bushing before I installed them. Very little, but not a ...

sticky Waverly tuners

Just put on my first set of steel string tuning machines . Some open back Waverlys. they get really hard to bring to pitch as the tension rises. Nut slots are sized properly and smooth. The tuners seems to be flush and properly installed (?). any thoughts?

Cutting bridge string slots

After 10+ years of classicals I decided to try a steel string (Weissenborn). I've read that some use a jig saw blade to cut the string slots. Are the slot widths customized to the individual string gauges or do most slot each hole with the same blade? (I'm using 3 degree slotless pins).

Re: Compensate a Weissenborn?

Thanks Todd. I'm doing a style 2 copy. Were the koa fret boards unfinished or were they shellac'd with the rest of the instrument?
