Re: Completed Electric Violin

Very nice design and work. What kind of amp does your daughter play it through? I was happy with the Barbera pickup on my violin played through a small tube amp, but would consider the Baggs, it is quite a bit cheaper. How is the jack positioned?

Re: Opinions on Dust Deputy

My experience is very similar to what the others said. I have the plastic DD version, over a bin, then into a big Ridgid shop vac with a HEPA filter. It has performed beyond my expectations, using it with several machines. While I do have a true dust collector for my big tools, I still use the DD/Ri...

Re: Dan Gilmore's Electric Violin

Hi Bob, thanks. The Limba is pretty light, which helps, but it is heavier than a regular violin by a fair amount. That's something I'll work on for future builds.

Re: My Latest Two Violins

Great work, I really like the contrasts in tone. And the craftsmanship is first-rate.

Re: Dan Gilmore's Electric Violin

Thank you, I wanted to retain the classic beauty and graceful lines of the violin shape, without being afraid of bucking tradition. The scroll is actually an inverted one, with the hole going all the way through.

Re: Dan Gilmore's Electric Violin

Hi, each of the plates (top and bottom) was made of a lamination of Limba/Maple/Cherry, then routed and carved to make a concave space. I left the outer edge level to mount the dowels. I had meant to post another photo that shows the side view. I didn't want a chamber to worry about feedback, so I d...

Dan Gilmore's Electric Violin

Hi all, I finished up this project and have presented it to the new owner. It sounds great and she's very happy. I am too. As a guitar builder, the violin was a bit outside my comfort zone. I had chimed in on an earlier thread and appreciate all the info I've gleaned through the years online. The de...

Re: New Design Peghead using lightweight Tuners (Pics)

I'm a guitar guy, and have been asked to make an electric violin for a friend. I have thought of using something other than the standard tapered ebony pegs, specifically the Grover Uke/Dulcimer friction pegs StewMac sells. Has anyone used those, or another alternative? And, if so, what did you think...
