Bondic UV light curing glue

Han anyone tried any products like "Bondic"?

these are the UV light curing glues that are being advertised right now.

I could think of a million places it could be handy, but I was raised with a dis-trust of the "As Advertised on TV" stuff.

Giant dent in finish help!?!?!

OOPS!!! I had finished spraying all of the coats of a nice Fiesta red strat when something in the shop fell on the face of the guitar and made a nice DIG in the front. I hadn't begun clear coats yet, which may make it easier to fix. The dig goes all of the way into the wood and I don't want to go re...

Re: Headstock spline

Thanks for the replies! I am working on pictures, but I did want to add that the guitar was repaired many years ago by a tech.in st. Louis. His name was Chris. He worked at a north St Louis music store and had a British accent. I wish I knew more! He added a wedge that went behind the nut to about t...

Headstock spline

I have an Alvarez Dreadnaught with a broken headstock that is precious to me. The cost of the repair by a pro will outweigh the worth of the guitar by a long-shot, except for the sentimental worth and the fact that it has VERY low playing time on it. I am going to do the repair myself and am plannin...

Alder for acoustic instruments?

Hello all! I just found a very large stash of Alder 2x2 planks at a great price. I don't want to pass on a great deàl if it could be useful. I know it it useful for solid body guitars, it haven't heard of it being used on mandolins or acoustic guitars. Does anyone use alder for internal parts on aco...

Re: Walnut soundboard?

I worked in a music store in St. Louis in the mid 1980's and sold a lot of Alvarez guitars. There was one model that I remember being all walnut with a brass saddle, nut and bridge pins.

I remember thinking the sound was very exciting and had great defenition.

I would love one of those now.

Re: bending with no blanket??

I have been bending with a pipe for quite a while. I have sawn a nice fat softball bat in pieces and use the butt end an handle with a torch to bend.

I was hoping to not invest the blanket yet, seems inevitable though....

bending with no blanket??

Hello all, Here I go! I am going to build a mandolin this summer. I would like to build a flat top with the outer shape of a Martin or the Crystal Forrest design. Not very extreme on the bends. I am looking to build a bender, but would rather not buy the blanket. I plan on building more than one. If...

Re: new archtop needs honey finish

I finished a tele with honey amber transtint in tru oil. This was a klieer combination for me .I plan on using it again. I didn't count drops. I probably just ended up making each coat slightly darker until I was satisfied.

I am going to need to make kerfed linings for some projects this summer. I have access to a lot of Doug fir that would be easy to cut down to size.

Re: Good Woods in Pacific Northwest?

I just spent 18 years in Eugene, Oregon. I found the Alder to be nice, Walnut to be great. I played around with some redwood, but never got it to a guitar. I might offer that Oregon Myrtle is very beautiful. There are small shops around the state that make furniture and bowls out of the stuff. They ...

Re: Pickup winder counter Help

Ok, so here goes, I am planning on using an optical sensor hooked up to an up/down counter with a relay. My goal is to end up with a variale speed AC motor (courtesy of an old Duracraft bandsaw)that will shut itself off at a preset amount of winds. I have been lusting after the counter that Clint Se...

Fret Crowning File- which one is the one?

Hello all, I have been reading the library and comparing the fret crowning files from Luthiers Mercantile, Stew Mac and Grizzly. I have the budget for 1 file for crowing medium frets. I am a medium fret kind of guy with a garage shop, but can see how the Gurian could be really versatile. the but the...

THANKS ALL!
