Re: General Finishes Waterbase Topcoat - SM is pushing this - anyone tried it?

For those that have used this much, can one lay down a couple of coats, wait 4-5 days, and then finish up with a few more coats? I'm on a timetable to deliver a guitar for my son's birthday and I have to be out of town for a few days. Hoping I an get the finishing started now and then finish it up n...

Re: General Finishes Waterbase Topcoat - SM is pushing this - anyone tried it?

I've been keenly interested in this thread. I'm a novice builder with little finishing experience and am looking for my best shot at success in a non NC finish. I was planning to use KTM9 waterbourne on my next guitar, but I picked up a small can of EnduroVar to try out on some scrap. I am trying bo...

Re: Trying to find info on wood processing company

Why yes it does. Yes it does for sure. :?

Well, interesting concept at any rate. Maybe not as much for the musical instrument world, but flooring and decking, it might just make sense if it works and is cost competitive.

Re: Trying to find info on wood processing company

Ah...found it. I guess they are just using it for bridge blanks, fingerboards and headplates. It's called Blackwood Tek, and they take a pine from New Zealand and treat it with chemicals, pigments and then kiln dry it. The specifics on the wood are: Blackwood Tek color: Black Origin: technologically...

Re: Trying to find info on wood processing company

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with torrified topwoods, which do darken a bit. But these back and sides really blackened up, leading me to believe it was something different. If my memory serves, it was so dramatic that very light woods were coming out rosewood like, almost ebony like. I think it was som...

Trying to find info on wood processing company

Several months ago I saw some marketing info on Madinter's website about some back and side sets that were being processed with some proprietary process which seemed to significantly darken and I think they claim strengthened traditional hardwoods. I don't see that info anymore on their website...so...

Very nice Alan! Sounds great...but to your point, looks like a pretty complicated build for sure! I'm thinking more along the lines of a Dyer style and using those existing plans to get me most of the way there.

Thoughts on filling deep Poly scratches

I recently bought an inexpensive acoustic/electric guitar which has two deep and long cracks in the poly finish running from the edges of the endpin jack down along the butt wedge but not quite reaching the edge of the guitar. This is a pretty thick poly finish (unfortunately) as we often see on ine...
