Re: Bolt On Neck Inserts - Isn't 8/32 is small ?

If you're talking about a Strat® type 4 bolt neck with a chrome neck plate just use the size bolt whose oval head best fits the counter sunk hole in the neck plate. An 8-32 has a pretty small head diameter. A 10-28 might not even be large enough. If you're not talking about a Strat® type bolt on nec...

Re: Brass binding on Garcia tiger/rosebud

...I ordered some brass 14 gauge square brass stock... Did you say this brass binding is for the perimeter of the body? It's my understanding that 14 gauge measures about 5/64 in. Five sixty fourths ( .078" ) seems pretty small for body binding. Did you mean 4 gauge? 4 gauge is 15/64 in. just ...

Pickup wiring advice requested

I'd like to get people's opinion. I drew this diagram to wire a strat type guitar with an added 4th pickup that is always on. I'm not an wiring expert but it seemed simple enough to do by just adding the 4th single coil directly to the output lug of the switch. What do you think?

Fret buzz..where to start

I'll be working on a guitar that has fret buzz on the E6 string, frets 2, 3, 4 and 5 only. I'll probably just use one of my small needle files and touch each fret top and then recrown but I'm curious, on which fret do you guys and gals typically start? At the sixth fret and work your way down or on ...

Re: Converting fretboard radius

Edgar, As I see it there are a few concerns. 1. You will take a fair amount of wood off the outside edges of the fingerboard. You will likely have to deepen the fret slots so that the tang will go all the way down. If you feel comfortable with that and there is enough depth on the fingerboard that ...

Re: Converting fretboard radius

it looks like it's unbound, so check your fingerboard thickness. Take the nut off and double check that it's not a veneer fingerboard. If you have sufficient thickness, go for it. If you think you might get marginal on thickness to refret, think about your options. 10" is less than I am comfor...

Converting fretboard radius

I have a Peavey electric that I plan on refreting. But, I want to convert the fretboard radius from 15 3/4in. to 10in.. I want to avoid simply replacing the neck if possible. So, I'm thinking of sanding the board to the 10in. radius using my sanding caul. The neck has a rosewood board and dot fret m...

Re: What electric guitars have you built because you couldn't buy it?

I had accumulated some extra parts so to get rid of them I decided that I needed a korina wood chambered flat top LP Special replica with a Bigsby, three pickups with a master volume and two tone controls, and a 5-way switch.

Want to get this look

I'm near the finishing stage of a korina wood flat top electric similar to the guitar in this eBay auction. And I'm looking to achieve a similar look except that I want the pores filled much darker (black) than the guitar pictured and I'm wondering what material to use. I'll be using KTM 9 from Stew...
