Re: Binding Side Ports
I use the "brass inlay router bit templates" that are in all the router bit catalogs, combined with my cordless Makita compact router.Wonderful tools.I do the soundport ring glue-up before I bend, using Titebond 3 which takes heat O.K. I have also used CA. Doing something like a simple koa...

I would also vote for J.B.Weld. I have used it to repair pitted cast iron on several old tools, and it has held up just fine.-Bob

Counter clockwise cutting router bits
A friend of mine has a nice old Star brand duplicator that does a great job carving necks. It is a hand me down from a guitar company. His is only the 2 bit model, with one bit spining clockwise and the other bit spinning counter clockwise to accommodate duplicate carving with and against the grain....

Re: Use the Amazon link, Luke
Charlie- Why not add a direct appeal for $ to support the MIMF in addition to the suggestion that we use the Amazon link. Actually, you get very little from Amazon and you might get a lot more by direct begging! My Amazon is keyed to help for Ukraine and Doctors Without Borders, but I'd be happy to ...

Re: We're Still Using Wood
When I came to Hawaii around 1982, I was buying koa at 19 cents a BF. That was koa I cut myself. It was left over logging operation stumpage, not lumber. Lumber, curly lumber, sold for the princely sum of about $3 a BF. That was an outrageous price, and milled boards were beyond my budget. Today, qu...

You can pay SM $25.00 for 4 sheets of .005 self adhesive, or you can buy 2 sheet packs of it in a stationary store for less than $5.00. I bought a case of it years ago, so I don't know the price these days, but I bet it's still out there.-Bob

African Ebony & Indian Rosewood Uke Bridge Blanks ks
I'm working on thinning out 45 years of hoarding wood scraps. I don't care if I make $ on it, but don't want to just toss it out either. I have hundreds of African ebony and Indian rosewood uke bridge blanks. Same price for either. 8-9mm thick x 2"-3" wide, by 5 1/2" + long that need ...

Re: Adding a Metalworking Lathe into Sawdust-Ville
I have a mini-lathe too and it is really great for making knobs and handles. I long to learn how to thread on it. Metal work , especially with the softer stuff like aluminum is a lot of fun. A good tip is never to use air to clean up your mess unless you like metal flake finishes.--Bob

Spray with the neck on
Like most builders these days, I finish my necks and bodies separately. I spray nitro. There are times though, when I need to do some spraying with the neck on. As anyone knows, doing the sanding and polishing around the fretboard extension and the neck heel is extremely difficult. Getting those are...
