Re: I’m Stuck. Wash Coat Before Binding...

I’ve never used anything prior to binding but after. I use ca glue to glue my binding in. Ca will bleed into the top and then an ugly yellow without a sealer. I haven’t had a problem with the sealer on the top. If you’re going to seal the top with shellac, it would be the same tinting or color.

Re: REPAIR

Baking soda and ca glue. But I’ve found it to be a stop gap/temp solution. Never lasted that long for me.

Re: Buffer

I started using Cardinal on my last build and didn’t realize how much I was suffering with the other nitro I had always used. The other stuff was like rubber compared to Cardinal. I have a similar schedule, but don’t go quite as high on the grits. I may start to. Appreciate the tips .

Re: Buffer

Thanks Barry, I’m ordering the same setup. I get good results from my stewmac buffer but darn that finish is a cut above. I also have other uses for the buffer so it’s dual purpose.

Re: Buffer

Hi Barry, I got one of the buffers in and need to get some pads for it. I can’t seem to find Meguiars pads in 4”. Do you know the item or part number for those pads? Or a link to where you got them? Thanks

Re: Gold Top Paint Cracking while aging, not checking

Is the Stew Mac white prime vinyl sealer? If so I would skip it. Vinyl sealer doesn’t burn together with nitro. Test it out on scrap first.

I have always used Smith epoxy, from LMI. I only use it on the back join. Braces, rest titebond.

Re: Dying epoxy

Hi Steve. I am gearing up to try this myself. My research has indicated that TransTint is often used for this. And alcohol soluble dyes should work in theory. I would think that the water soluble pigment would be incompatible but it might be worth trying if you have some in stock. Can I ask what th...

Re: De-humidor? is that a thing?

My setup is a set of lower kitchen style cabinets with a humidistat controlling a light bulb. I set the humidistat at 45%. Obviously this is where I keep my wood and partially build guitars in. My garage is not controlled. I only take the wood out for bracing when the garage is close to 45%. I’ve bu...

Satins you just spray and let dry. No buffing or polishing. That’s one of the nice features of satin if you like the look.
