Re: How to reattach a violin neck?

If the glue rests are HHG, you can reuse what there is but I would remove some of the gluerests and do a fresh mix of HHG. If the glue is something else, I would remove it all and I wouldnt reglue with HHG. The violin doesnt look like its a very good or expensive one. So if everything else goes wron...

Re: EIR or ebony for steel string bridges and fingerboards?

So what you´re suggesting is to use a rosewood bridge and an ebony fingerboard.. Thats what I´ve used for nylon string guitars for years. So thats pretty easy. I would NEVER put an ebony bridge on a spanish guitar. And since my clients always want ebony fingerboards, thats what i use. Why complicate...

EIR or ebony for steel string bridges and fingerboards?

Hi all This might be a trivial question that has been discussed 100 times, so I´ve seached in the library/wood section and I havent found anything. So would you use EIR or ebony for OM steel string bridge and fingerboard? And why? When building nylon strings. You never use ebony for the bridge. So I...

Re: Good way to personalize violin kit?

The best way to personalize a stewmac kit is to work the thickness and the chanel of the plates. That way you may end up with a nice instrument. The kit has no channel and will most probably have plates that are to thick and irregular. Next. it you final scrape the outside of the soundboard instead ...

Anyone working with soundports on violins?

Thats the question: Anyone working with soundports on violins? If so, how does it affect the sound of the violin? I´ve made many flamenco guitars with soundports and I like ported flamenco guitars a lot. But its another very different instrument. The Spanish guitar is not specially loud and the soun...

Re: advice needed on buying a few gouges for violin making

Sorry for breaking the forum rules. I´ve been a member of the old forum for over 8 years and never posted a picture. I did have a look at the rules, but there are so many that I didnt se this one. I guess, only homegrown pictures? Back on topic. So just 1 big relatively flat outside bevel gouge for ...

Hi I´m going to start building one or a few violins. I need some advices on buying a few gouges for shaping the plates (Not the scroll). I prefer buying a few and in a good quality. I´m in Europe and I have decided on the Swizz Pfeil company. I like their products and they are readily available. I w...
