never thought about using rubber bands ...... the only problem i can think of with using them is usually they are over sized . using rubber bands might make it hard to keep the cap centered on the tip ... i'm not on the band wagon of hide glue ...... making a clamp isn't hard .... some bondo ,a smal...

I'm just talking about the plastic and ebony cap. My plan is to glue it on with CA, shape it, drill a hole where the mortise is and square it up with a knife or chisel. Is this the correct way to do it? that's pretty much it :) i always used white glue to glue it on though . some times it was a bla...

some of them can be a real bear to get out ..
but keep on trying ...

it also helps to have another set of hands to hold the horn steady while trying to unscrew them .
also a good fitting screwdriver is a must !!

it seems there is always a couple stubborn screws in a horn
a soldering iron , heat sink paste at the base of the post and liquid wrench .
at least it isn't a plastic clarinet

simple glue up may or may not hold ....
personally , i wouldn't want a simple glue up ( just gluing the neck back in ) come back to haunt me .
i'd remove the rest of the neck from the body and re-glue it.
i'd drill and run a dowel up through the break .
then re-set the neck ...

Question for all: what should I use to free-up stubborn rods and screws? use heat to loosen the screws . a soldering iron will work . just clean all the solder off first . also use a screw driver that fits the screw ! if you don't you stand the chance of breaking off half the screw slot (been there...

another thing to watch out for on old horns is un-level / uneven tone holes ..
if they aren't flat you will never get the pad to seal the hole ...
i've done a few horns in my day , if i can be ant help ; just ask

well get a thin piece of brass sheet, remove the nuts and washers from the bottom of the bridge .
cut the brass to shape , drill holes for the strings and bolts . contact cement brass to the bridge plate .
restring .
