Re: Formica guit AR-7

I like redwood as for me tonally it is warm like cedar, but is harder and not as much of a PIA to work with as it doesn't take marks as easily just sitting around. My joint failure story with Redwood came about on the first 7 string classical I made - I didn't make the bridge footprint bigger than I...

Re: a pseudo go-bar deck

When I made my deck, I suspended it using iron pipe with flanges that I got from home depot. Cheap and strong. I put carpet and partitions on the top to store guitar bodies and such if I happen to be working on more than one thing at a time.

I have been away from the forum and regular guitar building for some time, but am getting back to it as retirement is getting closer and I have more time. Just over a year ago I saw a pic online of a PRS custom 24 signature model with a Zircote top. I really liked the guitar, didn't like the price.....

Re: Bending Wood Bindings

For really tight areas of a bend, like the outside of a horn on a cut-a-way, is to glue a piece of veneer or thin 2-ply birch plywood to the outside with superglue to help support it during the bend. After the binding is installed I just file/scrape it off.

Re: Shop size?

My shop is 16x24 and was framed up inside my barn. I have built up to 6 guitars at a time in it, but only have built a single instrument per year for the last few years - been too busy with other stuff. The biggest mistake I made was not having the slab sealed. I like the concrete floor, but I get t...
