Re: Building instruments, while having young kids

Whoops, I meant a Bailey Style #1 hand plane. I was fortunate to start woodworking and auto mechanics early in life.

Emotions are like thoughts. We should have as few as possible.

Re: Building instruments, while having young kids

Rockler offers a nice apron plane and a Bedrock style #1. It's never too early.

I Like Tango Music.

I'm considering moving shop to Buenos Aires. It's a retirement move. I've begun receiving a pension. I have thought about returning to Andalusia but I think my pension would go farther in Argentina. Any suggestions?

Re: Round Files and Rasputins

I'm rasped up. I ordered a 6" hand stitched fine half round modelling rasp, a 6" hand stitched #5 cut half round, and an 8 mm fine cut round rasp. But I'm still interested in a 12 mm #7 sweep incannel gouge so I can be Mr. Edge Tool and smirk at rasps and sanding sticks.

Re: Dedicated Glue Squeeze Out Chisel.

I clamp with cauls and cam clamps, so I clean the squeeze-out from under the cauls and clamps. This precludes curved chisels. The antique socket chisel is fairly long and thin. I can reach most places while the plates are clamped in a concave workboard. I was looking at some extremely long antique pa...

Dedicated Glue Squeeze Out Chisel.

I use an unrestored 3/8" socket chisel. Does anyone use a curved chisel?

Re: Round Files and Rasputins

The 1/2" diameter round rasp looks promising for this application. That is the recommendation from the Cumpiano book.

The Mighty WEN 9" Bandsaw!

I use my WEN bandsaw for a lot of things, but I don't think it will cut a neck blank out of a 3x4x24 Spanish Cedar blank.
Has anyone done this with this type of small consumer bandsaw?

Re: Round Files and Rasputins

Yes, the gouge. Are you using a 1/2 with an #8 sweep?

Laminated Veneer Sides.

I've been thinking about simultaneously glueing and bending 3 - 0.023 veneers in my side bender. Is this a good idea?

I received the pocket plane. It's what I was looking for to carve braces. Next: the apron plane.

Round Files and Rasputins

So far all of my acoustic guitar string ramps have been carved square with chisels. Can anyone recommend a good wood file and rasp to provide rounded string ramps.

I cut .160 into my tops, usually .08 into the lining. I usually cut .04 into the back linings .120 total for the back cut. I would like to do this by hand but I use a router.

Re: Bending Basswood for Laminated Sides

I've never successfully bent Basswood. I'm going to try Barry's numbers, too. I've often thought a veneer stack of 8, glued and bent and left to dry in the bender, would make good laminated linings for guitars worthy of Heavenly Angels. I'll probably try that.
