Thicknessing Binding.

I cut it on a table saw and set up a fence on the spindle sander. Is this wrong? It seems to work okay. Is there a better way?

IGaging 24" or 36" Precision Straight Edge! They have a flat edge and a tapered edge with lots of precise little markings.

That is a beautiful set of Walnut. Beautiful rosette, too. As I have taken a vow of Rosewood and Maple only, I must look away. Great job.

Re: 24"x4"×3" Neck Blanks

Thanks. For sunburst finishes I use a 30×1×3 and generously apply the tobacco brown toner. These will have really silky Kermodie Lutz tops. They're to nice to hide under a burst. Thanks for your help.

Re: The Ol' Vintage Amber.

The top I'm using is so nice, I'm hesitant to use any dye on it. Maybe a couple of coats of blonde shellac to seal it before the lacquer clear coats. The Mahogany might be happy with some dark pore fill and a slathering of garnet bug vomit before I blast it with toxic aerosols. That's about all the ...

The Ol' Vintage Amber.

I used the ColorTone Vintage Amber as the base coat of a two color sunburst for a Gibson L-0 copy. Tobacco Brown was my second color. It looked great. I was shocked. The next one will be finished with hand applied color. I watched a video on mandolin sunbursts. The person was a true artist. I'm abou...

Wow. Nice. I found a peg supplier and a rosette supplier when I was considering the Spanish Vihuela. Really fine work. Beautiful instrument.

Cherry is fine. Died Pearwood was popular with that crowd. Your bridge looks great.

24"x4"×3" Neck Blanks

Can I get two 12 fret Gibson L-0, 24.75" scale, dove-tail, necks out of a 24x4x3 blank?

Offset Veneer Saw

How well do these saws cut .08" purfling strips from a veneer laminate? I've been using a razor knife or a skew chisel and a metal straight edge. It seems a thin sharp saw with no set would be faster. I also use .026" solid wood veneers.

Re: Basswood For Back Bracing?

Good thinking. I was fooled by the quality of it's cut. I shaped the neck with a button-likeTorres heel and 1888 (GAL plan) Torres headstock, so I'm rethinking the whole guitar.

Basswood For Back Bracing?

I have a lot of very straight grain Basswood I've been using for lining strips. It's tempting to use some for back bracing instead of so-so Khaya or really excellent Englemann. The Khaya is has some run out. It's about ten years old. Is Basswood a poor choice on a Cedar/EIR classical? I could use th...

Re: When The Scarf Joint Appears At The Throat.

Freeman, I understand exactly whay you are talking about. As I was reading Cumpiano, preparing for this next guitar, I stopped and thought the scarf had been on top the first time I read the book. It makes perfect sense. Also, my first classical guitar has a headstock that tilts ever so slightly bec...

When The Scarf Joint Appears At The Throat.

My two steel string guitars are scarf joint and stacked heels cut from 1"×3" billets. I think I thin them to 7/8" but it has been awhile since I've made one. The scarf joint on these guitar necks appear nicely at the start of the shaft side throat. Now, my classical guitar necks are also cut from 1"...

Re: 1/16"×1/4" Straight Cut Router Bit For Cutting A "Guide Kerf" To Resaw Boards.

Thanks. Great advice. I think the ol' Freud 63-150 slot cutter mounted up on the mighty PC 690 would work. It's 2" in dia. I do have a router speed controlled on my side bender. I have some other medium density boards that I can do.
