Re: Resonator plans ?

I bought the Beard plans as a friend wants me to build a squareneck resonator for him and they are good. With that said, what investigating I've done indicates that their isn't enough soundhole area on a Dobro style instrument. I'm considering using a 14 fret body instead of a 12 neck body as the up...

Re: Using the dewpoint to precisely calculate Relative Humidity

If anyone is interested, I made an Excel spreadsheet where you type in the 2 temperature readings and it calculates the RH.

Re: Using the dewpoint to precisely calculate Relative Humidity

Oh, thanks for this reminder Mario! I knew this could be done as I learned about it back in school.......but I had totally forgotten this and never thought of it for a simpler method to calculate RH. Thanks again.

Re: Using the dewpoint to precisely calculate Relative Humidity

In case you want a good bang for the buck digital thermometer, here are a couple of options. Most digital thermometers take a long time to settle at a new temperature but these will go from ambient to 0C (32F) within 5 or 6 seconds and they are accurate to 0.5C (0.9F) within the range -10C-100C (14F...

Re: Aggravating undertone on D string

Does the under tone go away when the string is fretted? If so, does it come back if the same note is played on another string?

Re: The next MIMF challenge- ideas anyone?

I probably won't participate due to previous building commitments (depending on when it happens) but with that said, I like the previous suggestion of building from domestic woods as this has a lot of exposure right now due to Lacy. How about a Cherry back/side build-off? It's domestic, fairly cheap...

Re: Damaged goods

While I'm not a professional luthier, the problem is after repairing selling the instrument as "New" condition. Like Mario, I wouldn't want to pay full price for a repaired instrument and it would seem misleading to represent a repaired instrument as new. Now if it wasn't new (already owne...

Re: Tap Tuning

I recommend Al Carruth's video and Trevor Gore's books (Design and Build). Another video I learned some practical things from is John Mayes video.
