I need a spray gun - created 10-15-2007

I have a compressor that puts out 6.0cfpm, so Im pretty sure it doest supply the volume of air I need for a HVLP gun. The conventional guns I see are catagorized as either a regular or detail gun. Which seems to work best for guitar building, and what size spray patterns can I expect from each of these?

Get one of the cheap detail guns from Harbor Freight. They work just fine for spraying guitar finishes, lots of folks use them.

I'll second Mark on that, I picked up the HF HVLP detail gun currently on sale and tacked on the 2 year unconditional warrantee in case it gets gummed up with some unspeakable 2 part finish. I checked it out with water to see what spray patterns are available and it's capable of everything from a narrow dot to a 5" wide swath with reasonably even coverage. Once I learn all the tricks with it I'll get the real thing from sata or devillbiss.

I have one of those HF HVLP guns too, I used it on the Ukulele that I just finished up for the first time... It did really well. I had to ditch the filter to be able to spray unthinned Nitro effectively so I just strained the nitro before use. I twas nice not having the rediculous amount of overspray that I've been getting with my conventional gun. It's still not as oversprayless as a turbine unit but it was still much better.
