Anyone own the CATechnologies Mini-jet? If so do you like it?
I am thinking about buying a sprayer for waterbase lacquer and this one seems to come with quite a bit for the price at spraygunworld.
I think it is actually the TechLine Jr.
Comes with 2 tips (1.0, 1.2) and special glazing nozzle.
I'm still a novice at this stuff so take this with a grain of salt.
I use a siphon feed spray guy with around a 1.7mm orifice. Until I opened up the needle to get the volume of fluid coming out pretty high I was having trouble with the WB sealer drying in the air (don't know if the same was true with the WBL because I had found my troubles by then).
See the thread "More Issues". One of the guys who pushed me toward spraying a higher volume said that switching to a 1.4mm orifice fixed his problems. I imagine that he's using a gravity fed HVLP gun because he went "up" to 1.4mm.
So, to summarize, you might need to buy a bigger tip to spray WBL. Hopefully some more folks with more experience will chime in.
Thanks I'll give it a read. On the target coatings forum it seems most people are using a 1.2 mm needle with good results. Some report orange peel but it seems like it is always solved by increasing the presure a little bit.
One thing I read about the CAT gun was that it had some aluminum wet parts which I guess can cause issues if you dont clean out the gun right away. I dont think that will be a problem but maybe I should buy the Astro just in case.
I use a 1.0 tip on my SATA, sprays waterbased (usually unthinned, max 10%) without trouble.
