Screwed up my pickup

I have a Epiphone 700T pickup I did a magnet swap on and it sounded like a tin box with almost no vollume, I put the other magnet back in and it sounds the same, I checked all the wiring and it seems to be ok. I'm stumped. I've screwed something up. :( :?:

What type of pickup is it? If you don't have the magnet in exactly the same way as it was originally the polarity may be off and it could be messing things up.

You need to approach this the same as if you were presented with a guitar with a dead/weak pickup. Disconnect the pick up from any controls and send it directly to the amp. if the sound is good, the problem is between the pick-ups and the controls. If no good, then meter each coil individually. Got continuity? if no, you might have nicked a coil so only one coil is functioning. if yes, by any chance did you reverse the phase of one of the coils? This yields a very thin sound, even when hooked in series.

Thanks guys, I'll take it out of the guitar and test it, then go from there

Ok the pickup is 7.2 ohms so all is good. Another strange thing when I turn the tone pot to zero it shuts off the pickup. This is a pickup thart was working fine before the magnet swap, I'm stumped.

It's a humbucker.

Typically when the tone control acts like a volume control, you've got an open coil. Here is a description from the epiphone site:
700T
Description: Traditional humbucker with enhanced highs. Slightly overwound.
Magnet: Ceramic-8
]D.C. Resistance: 16.6K ohm

You might have a bad coil

Thanks Joshua that's the info I needed, I wonder what the f##! I did? I also swapped out the ceramic magnet in the neck pickup with a Alnico 2 and it made a real difference, a much fuller, richer, less harsh sound. This is a bummer  At least they are not expensive.
