Tangent piano article in NYT

If it's not a guitar or a bass guitar discussion, and it's got strings, put it here.

Tangent piano article in NYT

Post by David King »

I really enjoyed reading about this bizarre branch of the piano family. The sound of the thing is fascinating and delightful too. The simplicity of the action might make it an intriguing project for someone with time on their hands.

Wow. Very interesting. The lever that activates the "tangent" rod is engaged twice - once under the tangent rod, and again at the back near the fulcrum increasing the velocity. Also, the tangent rod isn't "captured" but is actually thrown upwards against the string.

That instrument must have a very unusual action under the player's fingers!!
